instrument lights

I need to replace the bulbs in all the instruments, including the one in the steering column. I've removed the screws that hold the faceplate to them, but I didn't want to force it off. Is this the right way to gain access? I'm new to this type of work so any help would be appreciated. It's a '71 C10 L/B.

Re: instrument lights

The bulbs attach from the back of the inst panel. Either go in under dash and twist the black knobs that hold the bulbs or remove the instrument panel and twist them off the back once you get it out. Easiest to just take them out back when you lie under dash but it sounds like you're close to getting panel off already.

Re: instrument lights

There is an oil pressure line going to the back of the gauge that needs to be removed and then the plug for the back of the panel. Also the nuts that are around the headlight switch and wiper knobs need to come off. The headlight switch knob needs to be removed as well, there is a button on top of the switch you can feel it by reaching up behind the dash. Press the button and pull straight out on the knob. Might want to make sure the battery is disconnected because the lights will be in the 'on' position
