120 for an instant in one of these isnt stupid if the tires and suspension are up to it. I wouldnt want to do it in a 1/2 ton though. Too much suspension play for me. Sometimes I'm happy my truck rides like a train.

Stupid is what I used to do when I was 16 . I had a SD 455 Trans Am with 2.73 gears that would , could and did top out at 165 miles an hour according to the mile markers and a passenger with a stopwatch . That was on the nice straight interstates of Ohio and it did it on pretty much a daily basis on my morning trip from home to the trade school I went to 20 miles away. Changing lanes felt like floating. Never wrecked. never got a scratch . Luckier than hell!

A 1/2 ton truck @ 140.....no problem, just leave your nuts on the dresser before you take off! If you really want to fly, you gotta dump that stiff 3/4 ton suspension.... (dammit, im a sh$t...sorry!)... crazyL

CRAZY

I bought my 71 GMC 4x4 about 80 miles from here. Had a friend drive my Dodge behind. 4" lift with 36" mudders with out a working speedo. When we pulled in to Memphis, he yelled at me for going 80 mph from Jackson to Memphis. Didn't feel like I was going over 65 mph, and had plenty of padal left.

Now crazy is when I was active duty military. I took my 89 RX7 GXL 146 mph top speed. I drove that car like the race car it was. 100 MPH in third gear, with 2 more to go. I drove from Memphis TN to Virginia Beach VA in 12 hours in it once. Thanks, Don

Here in the Parts of Nevada I live in, It's wide open roads forever. I haven't had my 70 over 100 but I used to take my ricer Mitsubishi 3000 GT out late at nights and play on the back roads, My first one a 95 would do 165-170 But the second one a 98 would only go A little over 150.. They discontinued the VR-4 before i could afford it.

I always used to tell the wife, If they didn't want me to drive that fast then they shouldn't have made the Speedo say it.

I know this doesn't fit in, because I don't have a 67-72 (yet), but I have buried the speedo in my 77 ford with an 85 mph one and after I swapped in a 100 mph one, and have the pics to prove it at: http://www.geocities.com/benwantland/f100interior.html

About how fast is it going when the speedo is 3/4 of the way from 100 to the 0? Does that make sense?

My truck would shake to death if I ever got up that high. Way back when I was in High School, Mom had a '68 Deville Conv. that I took on a road trip. Thought I was just cruising the speed limit, but was awful noisy inside with the ragtop, looked down and was doin 140, didn't feel like it at all. If you really want to be stupid, load a '64 VW with 4 teenagers and come down 2 mile hill on I-70 full tilt. Speedo went past 90 and around to the peg stop. Also, a '67 LeMans with 389 at around 120 the rear starts to float, scared the crap outta me.
