Re: The "In over my head" build thread

I put a trans temp. in mine the only problem was location of sensor mount in pan, did it 3 times, exhaust and drive shaft in the way, finally mounted forward section of the pan, and it cleared. so, I have 2 pan drain holes

Re: The "In over my head" build thread

Finishing Touches - 7/10

It's been a good Month. Put closer to 400 miles on the Blazer! A few small problems have popped up and been addressed. Encountered a hard start issue after driving on the highway for 30 minutes, parking, and then leaving about an hour later. So I installed a carb spacer Edelbrock sells to fix the issue.

I also have a very small leak coming from one of my PS/Hydraboost lines. I have some parts on order to fix that soon.

I still have a latching issue with my passenger hatch latch that I need to solve but it's low on my priority list.

As mentioned before I also wanted to get a Trans temp gauge installed so I got the same style AEM gauge to match my AFR readout. They look good and I love knowing what's happening with crucial components!

Got these kickpanel speakers installed and a small low profile sub under the rear seat to help with the bass tones. BTW the Retrosound Long Beach head unit is really cool. Lots of features and adjustability!

And with that I could finally get my glove box in place. What a pain! I needed to trim a good 1/2" of cardboard from some of the edges to get the embedded captured threads to line up with the holes in my dash. But in the end it fit well and it completes the dash!

Re: The "In over my head" build thread

Wow, that is a beautiful rig. You had me at 4x4 Blazer and nearly lost me at fuzzy dice, haha. Just kidding. Love the truck, and like the minimal updates that added more power with the 383 and drivability with the 700r4. The combination of colors is very cool to me: the orange plus the ivory plus whatever color the carpet is brownish tan. Very cool. You used some wheel paint on your calipers that really matched the cast iron. I know there are many different cast iron paints out there but I like how close that looked to the real thing. Don't know if you remember what it was? No big deal either way. Great job, and well worth the wait.

Sheeeeet man - all my rides get the fuzzy dice treatment!

Appreciate the kind words, otherwise haha. The Caliper paint, honestly I painted them some 10 years ago. I likely picked it up at a local Ace hardware. My guess is it was some kind of Rustoleum high temp cast iron/grey.

On another note it's probably time for an update to my build as I've just about buttoned up an an Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 EFI installation. Maybe this weekend I'll post some pics.

Haha, I don't know you, but I figured you could handle it if I gave you a little bit of crap. Seriously do like the truck a lot and will look forward to your update. If it is rustoleum I should be able to hunt it down. I like the natural look of most parts, but not so much when they start to rust. And the paint on your caliper looks the closest to the cast iron that I've seen.

Re: The "In over my head" build thread

I recognize this truck!

Saw it on Instagram, and I remember following it as MIGHTASWELLK5 there until my account (and all my photos) disappeared unexpectedly...

Still scratching my head on that one.

Re: The "In over my head" build thread

Man I haven't updated this in 2+ years!

A lot has changed with the Blazer!

I finished my Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 MPFI install and it's been killer. Highly recommend!

While I did that I upgraded to the Dakota Digital Gauge cluster. It connects to the PF4 system to pull in gauge date - but mainly i just want to keep an eye on AFR. I also installed a GPS speedo unit so I could do away with my speedo cable.

Next I had the paint/body guys install the Trique Mfg Altman Easy Latch. It's such a nice mod not having to slam my doors shut any more!

Then I got the glass tinted and took the whole family camping! The Blazer did awesome up slow windy mountain roads, stayed cool, and didn't miss a beat!

Then, poor planning on my part, but I wanted to drive it the 225+ miles to San Luis Obispo for the C10SloDown topless so promptly took the top off and hung it in my garage rafters

I had amazing time down in SLO (I'm headed back again in a few weeks for the 2023 show) and had to hit up Pismo for a quick photo op before headed home!

It was a nightmare honestly - at one point i had long screwdrivers up through the bedside holes, through the double wall top bolt holes and using the shank of the screwdriver to leverage the top forward to get other bolt holes to line up.

Thinking about it now it cold have broken something inside the top and i'd of been F'd. But it worked.

Rethinking it now...perhaps getting the thick upper chunk of rubber at the top of the windshield header good and warm for better squish/pliability could have helped.

all i can say is go slow, be patient and slowly cinch down the bolts a long the way.

My top sat on the truck for3 years before i pulled it off 2 years ago. I'm contemplating putting it back on and I REALLY hope I don't have issues again
