Bolt on EFI kits....opinions?

hey guys,

just curious what peoples' opinions are on the EFI kits? the ultimate preference (for me anyway) would be a full on LS swap. but i can't make it work financially nor logistically right now (the blazer is about to be my daily).

although i want any and all opinions, i'd be really happy to hear from someone who's actually used one.

what kind of improvements did you see? (just ease of starting? throttle response? mpg?)

I'm running a TBI kit from http://www.affordable-fuel-injection...mplete-system/ I put in on a new crate engine from GM and have been very happy with it. Starts every time, was plug and play and has been issueless on the steepest of inclines. For 4-500 more than a holley off road carb it comes with the computer, new distributor and great instructions. I'd do it again.

what's your mpg like?

I haven't figured it out but it's reasonable. Much better than the 4 Bbl was. My issue is the C%$P 3.07's I'm running with 33" tires. I have a set of 4.11 axles I'm swapping which will give me a better idea. I did have to but a cheap plate to block off where the manual pup goes into the block and plumb in a return line to the tank but fairly straight forward.

Jeff - i looked at that link...and then continued to read several others about that system. it really looks like a legit solution. all the reviews i read (however, it was more of a skimming of them) seemed really positive.

appreciate the head's up...i'll be investigating further!

If it was me, I would go with something from Holley. The main reason is parts availability down the road. I used a Commander 950 for my street rod (10 years ago now) and was very happy with it and put over 25000 miles on it. Years later I was still able to get replacement parts easily. What ever you decide to go with, make sure you get a system that controls fuel AND timing. Some kits being sold at a reasonable price don't do timing, and IMO that's just a waste of time. I will never go to a carburetor again.
Another bit of advice is go with an in-tank pump, preferably with a return line. Your fuel will stay cooler and you'll barely hear the pump run.
