Oil Pan Clearance

I'm putting a 5.7 Vortec from a 98 Chevy into my 72 Blazer 4WD. The oil pan hits the engine cross member before the motor mounts sit on the towers. The mounts are new. There's about 1/8 inch between the towers and the mounts.

Do I need to change my oil pan, or should I use spacers on the mounts?

Another question: Do the towers go on top of the frame rail or under it? I can't find any good pictures of 4WD towers, and it's been 5 years since I disassembled this.
