68 mirrorquestion

My latest truck is a 68 GMC 3/4. The rear view mirror is glued to the windshield like a 72, which would not bother me, however, there is no mounting pad on the ceiling of the cab. I thought everything prior to 72 had the mounting pad.

71 is the only year with a mounting pad. I think mirrors were still optional until 1970
