Hello - New Member - 1st post!!

Hello All,
I'm a new member who just joined. I have recently had the fortune and financial means to start restoring my fathers 1954 Chevy 3100. Before he passed he had parked it and it has been sitting in the weather for almost 20 years now.
Without any knowledge of where to start, I came across this site.... WOW!!! I can't believe how much helpful info here and great restoration pics and knowledge spread by all the member's that I've seen since lurking around here the last few weeks, that I knew I wanted to join in.
I do not have the knowledge, tools, space, etc to do this restoration. I have a wonderful friend who I grew up with that has decided to tackle this!! He is the son of the 1st Funny Car World Champ in history Shirl Greer!!! He just lost his dad last year and he knows how much this truck means to me, and him, that he has taken on the task of making both our fathers proud!!!
I'm not trying to get all "SAPPY" here, I just wanted to say hello and I welcome any and all advice that you PRO's may have!!

Welcome, remember these are relatively simple rigs to work on and there is a ton of information here. If you are going more stock than rod take a look at stovebolts.com too.

Welcome!! You've come to the right place.
What's the story on the blue truck in the background? Is that an older COE? Kinda hard to tell.

Re: Hello - New Member - 1st post!!

I appreciate the welcome!!!
The plan for the truck is to keep it as original as we can, once we find out if the motor is in decent shape we will just rebuild it and go from there. My buddy, thinks the motor in it will be fine. If not, then I can get all the luxuries of power steering, AC etc.
I don't particularly like the lowered look, and thinking one color paint - Crimson Red.
As far as the blue truck in the background goes, that was built by Shirl Greer to haul his funny car, and it's also a sleeper, I'll try to get you a couple more pics of it, it's bad!!

Of all the pics I've looked at on 54's I haven't seen the rear view mirror mounted to the dash like in my dad's, has anyone else seen this mounting spot before? We like that a lot and are def gonna keep it there!!

Re: Hello - New Member - 1st post!!

I am looking at placing a pretty good sized order for parts for my 54 through Brothers. I'm sure they do a great job, just wondering if anyone recommends any other classic parts service.

Brothers has 15% off any order over $299.00 until Jan 31st. So far I have around $2K I'm spending, which with the 15% will take off $300. Every little bit helps

I'm just kinda wondering if anyone likes/dislikes any parts you've ordered through them or any good/bad experiences??

Re: Hello - New Member - 1st post!!

well... Brothers has a nice selection, but in my experience, they are priced high.

80% of their items that I have looked at are cheaper at Classicparts.com, a sponsor of this forum. if u spend over something like $350 shipping is free, except for oversize items. their oversize prices have been cheaper than Brothers as well, again... in my experience.

If you have the time, price out the same order from ClassicParts.com

I just placed an order from them yesterday, and it double submitted because my browser hiccuped... they called me directly this morning to make sure I wanted both orders and canceled the duplicate for me.

I like em!

Anyone else chime in?
