Well, I found this one on ebay and I picked it up so the '54 hood emblem debacle is over, I hope

It'll be nice to get the original emblem on it instead of what looked like the wrong model emblem that was on it.
Clay, did you buy the decal kit for yours or did you leave alone?

Welcome aboard. Nice project. You got the right emblem from e-bay. I like Classic Industries for most parts. I also have bought from the Truck Shop and Brothers. I like Brothers window glass rubber the best. Good luck. Your dad would be proud.

Re: Hello - New Member - 1st post!!

Welcome to the board. I learned to drive in a 54 Chev half ton back when they weren't all that old.
I tend to buy parts from a variety of sources and don't really favor any of the big players but I do suggest getting the printed catalogs from all that offer them. Brothers usually sends a new catalog with any order and they have great color photos of the parts. The LMC catalogs have great exploded diagrams of the parts and how parts from one section of the truck relate to each other. That helps with that "oops, I'm going to need one of those too" things.

That truck seems to have picked up it's share of surface rust but really looks straight.

Thanks for the compliment. There are pictures of my truck in the" show us your projects" section as well as the "paint and body" section and also under the heading "pro street trucks". It took me forever to get to this point. I started in the 90's. Life happens while your making plans. Just make a plan and stick to it.

The 1st official part for the truck came in, the correct hood emblem!! My buddy just set it in place to take this pic. It's a phone pic so the quality isn't good, but looks like a million bucks to me!!

What's the story on the blue truck in the background? Is that an older COE? Kinda hard to tell.
Here are a few some pictures of the '47 GMC COE. Shirl Greer built everything behind the cab to fit a sleeper and his funny car. First Ever Funny Car World Champ - 1974!!!!

Re: Hello - New Member - 1st post!!

Thanks for the comments on which suppliers you have used in the past!!
I made a large order with Brothers during their 15% discount that ended Jan 31st. 3/4 of the order has arrived so far, some parts on back order. I decided to buy my most expensive stuff and take advantage of the 15% discount. My buddy who is restoring dad's truck said the new chrome grill is "rather sexy"

If you get a chance tonight listen in to him and his brother tonight at 8est on a live radio show on drag.racersreunion.com. They were invited to speak about their dad (Shirl Greer) in a tribute show. He passed away last year . His son Brian is my restorer and has been a great friend since way back in the day.
The link for the site is http://drag.racersreunion.com/ and click on top left Listen Now.

Here's a cool vid of his dad.. the late Shirl Greer...

Re: Hello - New Member - 1st post!!

So I have my dad's truck in Tenn getting restored. I decided to get another '54 and get it restored here in Dallas in hopes to sell it to make a few $$$ to help pay for my dad's rebuild. I finally found a really solid truck and went for it!@! It arrived last week. What do you think?

It's all original and even has the original inline 6 that runs like a champ!!!
Had to clean out the carb as the tank had some rust in it which clogged the carb. Cleaned all that out and now just need to bleed the brakes, get the front turn signals working, and wipers to work so it can get inspected and it's a driver!!! Also got new plugs, points, etc. Oh yeah, got the title today!!!

Welcome from So Arizona!

You have a lot on your plate, but keep your eye on the ball and it will all come together with "unlimited funds".
You may find it hard to let go of your new adopted truck once you have a little blood and sweat into it.
