Steering column help needed please.
So I’m trying to install a steering column in my 1968 C10. Any help is appreciated.
I have a really nice 1968 C10 project. When I bought it in August it had a Blazer steering column literally JAMMED under the dash as a temporary way to yard drive it. Since then I bought a used aftermarket tilt column out of a 1972 C10. I don’t have a list of parts but I did buy a bunch of new parts from a vendor so I probably have 90% of the parts I need to correctly install the aftermarket column. I have the under dash support bracket and the engine compartment support bracket too.

Make sure you put the seals on the column before you go attaching it to the cab. Especially the lower seal.

67-68 columns are different than the 69-72 columns. The later models used an intermediate shaft style, the early ones did not.

These are the parts I bought. I think I have two styles of the lower seal.

Put this one on the column and slide it all the way to the top as far as it will go.
Then slide this one on and leave towards the fire wall. Then this is the one you want to use at the fire wall. The black metal one goes on the dash under the column.

Thank! And thanks for the extra pics too! Bought this truck with a steering column that was WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, and missing the parts I showed. Helpful tips like this will help me get the newer column installed right the first time.

I found a really ugly hack job behind the gauges. The upper column didn’t have any support so I removed the dash gauges only to find a complete mess. This will take some clever fabrication to repair.

Yea I just saw your F/B post. That is some kind of messed up for sure. Find the under the column plate that has been chopped off and weld that u shape support back on and you should be good to go.

I would try and find another brake pedal assembly and the upper support, then repair the dash piece.
