4.1 250 l6 distributors

I need a distributor for a 1970 C10 that has a 73 block. Will any distributor from a 4.1 250 l6 work ? Why do the parts places say the one for a 70 model will not work on a 73 ?

Maybe because the HEI Distributor came into production about that time.
Which is stupid computer logic, since the GM L6 HEI distributor is backwards compatible to the '63 -'72 L6s anyway.
I have a '68 C/10 with a 292 L6. It has an HEI. At the parts counter, I tell the kid it's a '75 C/10 so his computer doesn't seize up. [I have the remote coil low cap style HEI].
The more common coil-in-cap HEI will work fine on a 250.
If you just want a points-type distributor, any unit for model years '63 -'73 will work. [I believe the HEI was optional in MY '73, and standard later.]

Thanks for the good info. I thought that was the case but I have very limited knowledge on these trucks and I am trying to put this one back together that the PO gave up on.
