Modern step bumper for 72 fleetside?

Hello all,
I am looking for a decent looking step bumper for my 72 fleetside 4X4.
Does any body know of any good sources or what other years or makes will fit?
I have pretty good fabrication and welding skills so I am not to worried about the stock brackets, just a bumper that is the right length and body contour..
Thanks,
Mark

i've looked into this myself. the main problem is all the plastic that they put on them these days. the best looking one i found at least in my opinion was actuly on a ford. i think it was a 98 but that's a guess.

Stomper
I've got an 88-89ish on my 67. Fits pretty good, but I don't personally care for it. I was just figuring out how to get rid of it. Let's figure out how to get it to WI!!!!!!!!!
It's painted white by PO

I have a step bumper on my stepside and I don't think it looks bad. Better than the factory mammoth that Chevrolet put on them.

Re: Modern step bumper for 72 fleetside?

Hey Mudder, nothin' wrong with that stepper that I can see.
Just to clarify, the bumper I want to get rid of is the OE type late model. It's more contoured. With some mods to the brackets, it may fit better than it does now but I've got the "correct" OE chrome for my short fleet. If ya'll want pics let me know and I'll pull it out of the garage and get some tomorrow.

I have the same style that Mudder does on my longbed. Good quality and easy install. Available from most parts dealers, and the cost was not that much from what I remember (it has been on about 5 years now).

I notice on your pic of the moulding on your tailgate that says "CHEVROLET" the background is black. I have never seen one advertised with the black background ,only woodgrain. Was this on the truck when you bought it or did you paint it, buy it ?

FEY (Westin) have other models than the diamond plate version that Mudder67 and barn9 shown in the pics. for the record, I have the fleetside version on my stepside and it does stick way out.

This came on the 69. I am not sure what it came off of, but it will be the bumper. I think it looks good and it gives me something to step pn when I need to get up in the bed.

Re: Modern step bumper for 72 fleetside?

Has anybody tried to use a sport bumper from a late 70's truck on our trucks it looked similar but I am guessing that it is too narrow.

They fit with a little tweaking on the mounts for the frame. They (73 up) have slightly different lines to the bumper, so a purest would definitely know it didn't match with the front. I pulled one off a 68 and found out it was from a later model after I had taken it off.

BTW this was on a fleetside truck.
