Re: Die-cast 67-72

Oh no, that's pretty bad! I should know because that sounds exactly like me. Next winter when I can't pay the electric I'll be singing the blues! Hah hah, not quite, but two more came today. How exciting? The worst part is a few of the La Trocas I already had from off the pegs and sold cheap when I was liquidating a zillion Hot Wheels when my wife first left. I guess that means I'm doing better

I have stopped...I think. But I know I have to have that next '67. By then GL will have one I have to have, and probably other new Hot Wheels. Ok,I've stopped going back for older castings/issues, for the time being. I need to build a shop to tear into my '67 in

Re: Die-cast 67-72

I came here to comment on how many of those special K-mart '67s are on Ebay. Holy cow! Hundreds of them. Lots of 20! How can there be any left for the special day?

Also, there are two of the black 2016 editions on there right now. Gotta pay to play if you want to be first one on your block

I always laugh at the pre-release cars on eBay and the guys that go crazy paying $10, $15 and more for a car that will be all over the place for under $1 in a few weeks.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

I first experienced that with the little black deuce couple with flames (1st edition) came out. I was at Spring Carlisle and these were going for $10-15 all over the place. And these weren't limited edition/special offers or anything like that. They were off the pegs carded stock. It was a very well done casting/paint job. I had to have one, so when I saw one for $5 I bought it and felt I did best as I could there. I tarted seeing them in the stores a couple months later. I was finding 4-5 in one store visit. I ended up with 20+ of those things for $.98@.

That's one thing different abut diecast collecting, people go nuts over fresh and new over old and preserved and it's all about price guides. People climb over each other and pay dearly to get a new release, when a 10-15 year old limited release may not be work as much as it was new.

I admit my first impulse was to bid to win on that black '67. Then I decided I can wait and casually buy a couple later. But I only ever found a few 1st releases, never saw any yellow w/flames in a store, and I knew I wouldn't be fighting to find a green one at Kmart. I'll end up buying this '67 online, unless I see one at a show. I guess I could get lucky at a store. Hardly seems worth it with all the dealers getting to the good stuff before it hits the floor

I've been concentrating on more recent castings lately that I'm trying to collect like the '69 Charger and '70 Superbird and a few others. It amazes me the value of some versions of some of these cars. Like the 2006 Treasure Hunt '69 Charger bringing $50, $60, $70+ when they made who knows how many tens of thousands of them, yet a lot of my limited edition cars from the '90s that only have 5,000, 7,000 or 10,000 produced are only getting $10 or so.

There will always be those castings that are ever popular. The '83 Silverado is one and it looks like this '67 C10 is as well. I got lucky and hit some fresh bins and scored my yellow ones. But they didn't hang around. After the day when I first got them, I never saw them hanging around. I wasn't really collecting so much when the red one came out, so I didn't know to look for it, but I lucked out and found 4 of them on the pegs spread across several months. Sometimes the luck just isn't there and you miss out on them. Even in those cases, it's still better to wait until after they've hit the pegs before resorting to eBay since they'll then be flooding the auctions for much lower prices than the pre-releases.

Ahhh...the fun of the collecting game.

There's a Wal-Mart exclusive 8 truck set coming out later this fall or early winter with the Custom '69 Chevy in it. I haven't found a pic of the trucks besides the Datsun yet.

white Just guessing. They haven't done a white one. There's the HAYS one, with Real Riders; but it's more of a cream color.

I'm guessing maybe yellow since it's shaded slightly darker than the Datsun on the cardback. I've seen an actual pic of the Datsun and it's white with blue and red graphics.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

I went on Ebay this weekend and got what I think is an unbelievable deal on the new black '67. I guess they're not new yet, since they don't come out till '16 . Bidding started at $1.50 a pair and he had two pair available. There was only about an hour left with no bids. Shipping for a pair was $3.15, which is reasonable compared to what I'm used to seeing. I sent him a note requesting combined shipping and went ahead and bid. I won them w/o combined shipping since he didn't have a chance to see my note. Oh well, $9.30 comes out to about $2.33 a piece so not too shabby. Then he sends a message apologizing for not seeing my request before bidding ended and gave me a $2.90 refund. So total was the same amount as both shipping charges, $6.30. That's only $.25 more for the second pair shipping and $1.58 a piece! Not bad for an early bird deal, and I was willing to wait. I was surprised no one else bid on these. I got four of them including shipping for less than what some are asking for just one before shipping. The funny thing is I hadn't been on Ebay for weeks and I know there are people who scour everyday. Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know how happy I am with that. I have all I need in one buy, on to the next!

People are starting to find them right now. The final batch of cars for 2015, the Q case, just hit my area a couple weeks ago so the 2016 A cases that have the black '67 should be appearing anytime now.

It's good you were able to get some early without paying a huge premium.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

They cost me less than driving to buy them at the store. Would have taken 2-3 gallons to drive and not too likely I'd find four. I'm just glad I got them now. I may not want to be spending toy money this winter

Don't call yourself done just yet. Hot Wheels typically likes to do 2 colors of a model during a model year, so I would expect to see a second color popping up in a few months.

Done for now

I would show a picture from the listing, since I won't have mine till next week, but I think there's already a picture in this thread. Those black trucks all look the same

I don't have a pic, but someone posted in a Facebook group a pic of a 9-pack they found with the black '67 in it, only it was an error and was missing the side tampo. It looked killer in all black.

That would be a great error! I have a Blue w/flames Custom 69 w/o flames error truck. Would love to have that black one. I guess they don't all look the same after all.

Acetone is supposed to do the trick. I've never done it myself either.

Yup, acetone. Done dozens of them myself. Acetone is also used to take the bubble off of the card if you want to customize it and then put it back on the card like Hot Wheels made it that way.

Thanks Mike. You would know. After posting the question yesterday I kept thinking someone had already told me, then I remembered you did (forgot what you said...duh). I'll have to grab some nail polish remover, I'm fresh out!

Mine aren't here yet. I think it said delivery on the 20th...cheap shipping, no complaints
