What clear to use?
I'm looking to buy a clear for my truck I'm about to paint. What clears have you guys used with best results. I've already used a chromabase clear in the past with good results but wondering what else is out there. I'm looking to spend in the $3-400 range a gallon. Thanks!

I have used all kinds of products, my favorite for restoration work is PPG Global D894 with D884 catalyst for a non bake application. If you are going to be able to bake the finish then there is a D897 catalyst that is scratch resistant. That being said you should use clear compatible with your base coat, if you mix brands you could have peeling problems later. pretty much every manufacture has good products just pick one designed to work in the environment you are spraying and follow the tech sheet.

I'm definitely not baking it so that's good to know. I already bought DuPont chromabase paint so I should probably stick with that clear. I would hate to have problems down the road

I'm not a big fan of crossing company lines so I would stay with the Dupont Family if I were you. I have had lots of good luck from PPG's little brother O and their product called quick clear it is really good for people who don't have a booth cause it tacks off in just a few minutes and is dry in less than half an hour.[well dry enough to be dust free] I know lots don't have booths and that helps to dry out quickly.I do have a paint booth but I am out in a field basically 6 miles from town. Transtar makes a great product line that can be shot with anybody's base.

i'm partial to rubberseal euroclear. i use it on motorhomes with high metalics and haven't had any issues for the approx 10 years i've used it. back when i had several painters they would all get crocodile tears if you said "dupont"
