Lowering 88 Silverado

I'm wanting to lower my 88 short bed to about 5/8, Its already lowered 2/4 with spindles up front with hangers and shackles in the rear. What all do I need to add besides a flip kit to get it to 5/8? I also need to know what shocks and springs to run bein that low.

Thanks.

Re: Lowering 88 Silverado

In front you will leave the drop spindle & replace your factory spring with a 3" drop spring.

In rear you will have to do the flip kit, c-notch the frame & then replace either the drop hanger or drop shackle with the factory piece.

As far as shocks, I personally have had good luck with BellTech Nitro Shocks.

Re: Lowering 88 Silverado

I agree with JWall. Had a 5/8 drop on my old '93. I used spindles/springs up front & a flip kit with drop shackles & C-notch for the rear. You'll also need to trim your stock bump stops or install shorter ones. Back then I had Doetsch Tech shocks on that truck. I'm a big fan of the Belltech Street Performance shocks now.

Thanks a lot guys! Do you happen to have the measurements on the shocks?

Re: Lowering 88 Silverado

Also, would a kit off of eBay be worth using or is there a certain brand I should go with?

Re: Lowering 88 Silverado

Stick with a reputable company. It is your suspension your dealing with.
I stick with BellTech or Western Chassis.

I agree. I had Western Chassis components on my '93. My Tahoe had Belltech spindles & springs, but the PO changed to DJM spindles when installing new wheels. DJM (or Western Chassis) spindles won't push the wheels out like Belltech.

Re: Lowering 88 Silverado

I went from 4/6 to 5/8 and hated the ride, any little bump in the road my axle tubes were hitting the bumpstops in the notch. I ended up going full air ride with the elevel system from Accuair. Just my .02

4/6 on SS wheels 255/60/15

5/8 on 20's

Bagged

Re: Lowering 88 Silverado

I'm with jmig. I went to 5/8 and the ride is absolutely terrible but it looks awesome lol. Hopefully bagging it next year. I wouldn't consider doing it again without at least a huge weld in notch.

Re: Lowering 88 Silverado

I couldn't imagine having 8" in the rear with a standerd notch. At 6" I only have a few inches of travel. Its fine with the helper bags but without them at a 6" drop putting anything in the bed would not be an option. A step notch would work fine though. I don't like the rear looking lower then the front so I'll never find out how the 8" rear drop works out though
