Re: Oil filter seal keeps blowing out. HELP!!!

I agree with using an engine flush but i wouldnt just drain it. I would drop the oil pan after the flush that way you can get to the bottom of the oil pump so you can make sure the sludge didnt get to the strainer on the oil pump and you can clean the oil pan!!!! You definitely dont want to loose oil psi!!!! Good luck!!!

Replaced the oil pump yesterday & it fixed it. I would have never guessed the oil pump was the problem.

Re: Oil filter seal keeps blowing out. HELP!!!

It happened to my '96 today. Had to tow my '96 K1500 home when my wife took it to an appointment. She said it stopped in an intersection. Found a puddle under it, then more in the driveway. I figure it blew when she started it, then blew the rest of the oil out en route. She said it wouldn't even turn over. I crawled under it at home to find the seal blown out the side of the filterr base. Oil pressure was 40 psi 2 days ago, the last time it was driven. I sent a message to AC Delco about this. I'll be interested if they reply. THIS SUCKS!!

Mitch, sorry to hear about your truck. Aren't women observant about listening to motors? (Sarcasm intended). I say this because my wife would have done the same thing. Oh well.

Re: Oil filter seal keeps blowing out. HELP!!!

No offense taken. My wife said the gauges looked ok when she started it. Because of traffic and being in a hurry to get to her appointment, probably didn't notice it again. I don't blame here for not hearing anything other than the ticking of the lifters, since it has been doing that for a while, but oil was ok. I just checked it last week.
I did find a new gm vortec engine with 4-bolt mains locally for $1900 + tx +core. I'm going to check it more tomorrow to determine if I need to get it. If so, I'll try to pick one up on Friday after work. Luckily, I have the ability and friends to get it done.
PItA, but maybe a little fun. Gotta try to see the bright side, you know.

Allright, It was the wifes fault I have to put a brand new 6 liter in my old truck. Honest honey, you really got to look at the guages more often so I don't have to do this again!

Yeah, now I'll have her drive my '85 so I have to install a new HT383. Wonder if she'll go for that?

Re: Oil filter seal keeps blowing out. HELP!!!

So, as the earlier posts mentioned a check valve, what does a check valve look like? It is buried deep in the block or is it spring loaded, under tension, busting to escape when you convert from canister to spin-on filters? I am converting and I didn't see any check valve fall out, and I don't know if I am missing it. What does it look like?

Re: Oil filter seal keeps blowing out. HELP!!!

Oops! That second sentence should have the first two words switched, so "Is it" creates the question; I am asking for help here.
