Cab Replacement

Seeing that I need a new roof and I have access to one about 120 miles away. I just found a GMC cab here locally. Will my C-10 parts, fenders hood etc etc bolt up on the GMC? Its at the werecking yard, I need to see if they will sell it to me before I let the roof go.

i think the 67 and 68 gmc fenders are slightly different dont quote me on that. But you might need to look into your local dmv laws on this sort of thing, because the vin is on the cab and on the frame is it going to be a chevy or gmc.

True, I heard that I have to have the cab cleared through the Highway Patrol
to make sure its not stolen, then I can go to DMV. I know 67 and 68 GMC is like 67-68 Chevy, only those fenders fit. But what im not sure about is, the GMC cab with Chevy front end.

You can use a GMC cab instead of the Chevy cab. There are some interior differences in the years of the cabs regarding the e-brake and other small items but the cabs will all interchange with each other.

Thats what I needed to know. Now if I can get the wrecking yard to sell it to me.

Im the second owner, the PO my uncle was a Longshoreman in Long Beach, thus the rust. Not a lot, but I have seen this on cabs in the same spot. Just not as bad.

wow, I was wondering how you photshopped the Crand Canyon onto your roof!

If the DMV has issues you could always swap roofs...

Roof swapping was the original plan, but its not as easy as it sounds. Have to brace the cab with welded tubing then cut the roof off at the pillers and measure ans weld the new one on. PIA, so new cab would be better for me.

I've also heard that there are places that sell the original riviets that attach the ID plate to the cab. I think there called rosette rivets or something. You could probably search on here somewhere and find them. I don't know how legal it is, but could be an option if the CHP is a PIA.

How is Atwater these days? Have not been there since my stepdad past in 1993. He was off the main street after you exit the freeway. Went up about a mile then the main street turned right went two blocks or so then left turn.

I will be swaping VIN plaques. Not sure about the legalities, but I do know you have to find and use rosette rivets. It was marked rosette on my VIN inspection.
I just want the frame to match the cab VIN.
Another option was to cut around the VIN plaque and weld the whole area back in, keeping the stock rivets.

Again from what I hear as long as its not stolen, then its ok. My truck will be classified as a GMC with a chevy frontend. No big deal, im not going for a restoration anyway.

sorry VDOG...been a while since I've been on.

Atwater is great, although there are two Atwaters in Cali...one just north of LA and one in central cali (merced county). The later is where I'm at. Drove by the one in LA going to Disneyland around christmas time, thought about cruising through to see if it looks the same as the one up here...but the wife and kido's had been in the car long enough and weren't goin' for the "scenic route"
