Spare Tire Mount - In Bed

If you were mounting a spare tire in the bed of the truck, which back corner would you mount it in? Driver or Passenger side? I have already picked up a mount from LMC, just have to decide where to put it. I have a bed box, so I would like to avoid the front corners. I did a mock-up mount last night with it on the drivers side, pics below. By the way, the mount from LMC looks to be of good quality.

Drivers side like you have it mocked..with the exception of the three holes you can leave bolts in you can move it later.

Re: Spare Tire Mount - In Bed

Great mock up 68_Step - I have recently received a mount from LMC and was wondering where it would look the best - it looks like the truck was design with that spot in mind - the the tire and wheel seem to fit perfectly behind the wheel well.

Btw, does the family love themselves some Kikoman Soy Sauce or what? JK

Please post some pictures once you have it installed.

Thanks

I also have 5 gallon buckets (empty!) of "Heavy Duty" mayonnaise . My son-in-law manages a oriental steak house - I get a never ending supply of food safe buckets. Mighty handy for a small farm...

Re: Spare Tire Mount - In Bed

MY 72 C10 had an aftermarket in that location and it worked out well. The stock location on both the short and long beds was just forward of the left wheelhouse.
But having it in the left rear also proved very useful and a convenient place to stash stuff behind like gloves, tire chains and tie-downs out of your normal sight line.

I had one in the front driver's side before. Sorta liked it didn't block my view there. Rear corner I think is fine.

That does look good, and a lot easier than under the bed too

Re: Spare Tire Mount - In Bed

Mounting was a breeze. 3 carriage bolts - but I must admit I was a bit surprised at the 10mm bolts for a 67 Chevy mount!

Looks great - I see you have a lock on it - what are you locking to?

Great job,

One could use one of these to scure the wheel.

Thanks!
What am I locking it to? Not much The LMC kit came with a steel loop that fits over the lug nut - it has a hole in it that lines up with a hole in the black bar that holds the tire in place, lock goes thru both holes. If they are more than a little determined the tire is gone, but last night the lock was handy.

For what its worth, my truck came with a spare tire carrier on BOTH sides of the bed, behind the back wheel wells. I had a heck of a time seeing cars over my right shoulder. Since I don't travel where you need two spares like the PO of my truck, I removed the one on the passenger side. You definately want to mount that on the driver's side. Unlike the cell phoners and texters out there on the highways and byways I still care about my fellow travelers.

LockDoc - great idea. The only draw back I can see is does that hinder you from hauling 4x8 sheets of plywood or similar? I still need to use my truck as a truck.

Not my trucks but it shouldn't stick out any farther than the wheel tub...
