Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Suburban?

Suburban's with the highlander option look killer. I think it because most of us truck guys are used to long bed rugged work trucks when we think of highlanders. But suburban's are pleasure cruising vehicles. Add to that multiple seats with loud fabric; it just doesn't get cooler than that.

Love to see pictures...

Sorry I don't have the SPID for it. While not exactly "correct" on a number of details it presents well the Highlander trim. But I do have several more pictures including a fanciful plaid spare tire cover.

Yours does appear to be similarly optioned but the BBC is a very nice bonus touch!

Thanks...just posted on another "help" thread that you were on...I'm just not seeing the highlander "options" on the SPID...clue me in on this one. I know it is a highlander as I have "part" of the original seat covers left and the truck has only changed hands 2 times outside of family members since new.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Suburban?

Rest assured your trim code 642 Suburban is a Blue Plaid Highlander.
Being a Highlander Trim upgrade it will have the Highlander goodies like the plaid and black carpet but none of the Promo Package options were included.
All other options on your Suburban (other than the Z62 Custom Deluxe) were free choice. This is why your Sub was built with the base mirrors and not the DG4s "included" with Promo Package A or higher as an example.

While everyone's idea of "cooler" is subjective (from really cool to WTF) here is one of mine you might like.

While not originally part of the concept here for a phantom K30/3500 panel truck, the 72 Highlander trim would be great to offset the 505 Dark Green paint. Either Avocado or Orange plaid on a bench seat or even the Blazer's buckets.

I'll post up some pictures when I get a chance to get them. I'll warn you...she is REALLY ugly right now. The green GMC fenders and yellow hood do nothing for her! I had the truck painted 10+ years ago...did it on a budget just to get it all covered...and didn't do the roof white. My brother-in-law, the producer of the GMC front end due to a wreck and subsequent "putting it back together" also stuck in a different interior. Thankfully I've got most of the original parts. I'm probably going to have to dye a set of panels white for the inside as I have no idea where the door panels went when he did the change out.

The suburban is in line for work, but she is pretty far back. I've got a frame swap on my '49 panel and then have to get my '50 pickup running again. After that it is time to work on the suburban. I purposely put it on the back burner as I've got to decide just how I want to approach the repairs I've got to do!

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Suburban?

A few years ago I bought this BB original Highlander Burb but it was too rusty for me to deal with so I resold it. The 80's buckets were in it when I bought it.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Suburban?

Found what appears to be another "Hidden Highlander".
A former big block (he still has it) C10 in blue with blue plaid seats in rows two and three. The painted door and side panels are a giveaway its probably an original Highlander. Please post the SPID if you see it! :-)

No problem we all have things to deal with. But I'll tell you it was worth waiting for! Love the options and hope all the bits that make it a little special are all there.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Suburban?

All the bits are there and then some. Lots of dealer adds with all the paper work showing the adds and prices. Off the top of my head I can think of:
cargo light on hatch, cruise control, fader and rear speakers, luggage rack, and auxillary heater. Ignore the leaves in the picture.
