You can do an entire truck with a single gallon and it is a lot less than rattle cans. I spent $50 on rattle cans last time and it looks like hell.

Re: Flat black or Primer grey?
Dunno. My buddy's 68 Camaro was rattle canned flat black. He's damp sand it while wet and it never came out tiger striped. Better yet touchup was only a squirt and sand away. Piece of cake. Another friend of mine had a really nice, early 240z but also a 1/4 mile gravel driveway and his rockers got beat up bad. He sprayed the bottom 3-4 inches black the same way (actually looked way better than it sounds here) and bingo, each weekend out came the can and paper. In 5 minutes it looked sharp again.
It's not as bad as it sounds but I'm sure the rest of the guys are right. There are better ways to go, I'm sure. |

Re: Flat black or Primer grey?
I say try to spray it as cheaply as possible with a gun. That can be done better quality than a can and it won't cost you that much.
Here is gray of a board member I have saved: Here is a truck with some pinstripe flames on flat black: |

Re: Flat black or Primer grey?
The problem with asking for an opinion is that you are going to get one...LOL! It's your truck...do what you want. I like the easy cleanup with the rattle cans and you can even buy a little plastic handle/trigger assmebly that makes it really easy on your fingers and even looks like a mini-spray gun

Re: Flat black or Primer grey?
Semi gloss is WAY better than flat. The flat paint/primer, will absorb water, will hold dirt... real tough to clean, and the washing and scrubbing to get the dirt out will rub the finish off. Ive been there on 2 trucks, and I did this to get the same look, but not be so crappy. The black rattle primers will fade too, within a year, it'll be somewhere between black and gray.
So here's what i used; Here's how my truck came out; And here's how I did it; http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=214871 Kinda long thread in the link, however, there's plenty of awsome advice in there. There is something to be said for holding out untill you can afford real paint, however, it sucks cruising around in something that looks like a gypsy wagon. Esp in the high school parking lot. Multiple colors is THE WORST thing to have when your buddys are razzin you about havin an old truck instead of a 3 year old Honda. Make it look cool, a couple old school stickers go a long way, as do the pin stripes. You can put scallops, or the pin strip flames on and not spend much money. Just have fun with it. |

Also, remember the John Deere Blitz Black is available in aerosol cans too at your local JD dealer.

Re: Flat black or Primer grey?
Is that with a roller, or was it shot with a gun? Looks great.

Re: Flat black or Primer grey?
Rattle cans don't have to be black or gray. And as long as you're rattle canning, why not go two tone? This is a pic of a rattle can job I did to make the truck presentable for sale. It looked good from 5' away at least.

Re: Flat black or Primer grey?
Well it's like this you have good chance when you rattle can it will look like crap not all ways the case 80/20 it turns out very well have you considered waiting the first week of school prep it get it ready hand sand it with 10 buddies then take auto shop and for extra credit spray your truck with the schools air compressor your auto shop teacher would probly help who knows they may even have primer in your auto shop at school if the class is full ask if you can still use the compressor or find some in that class to do it if the class is full tell them you are going to take the next opening spot they may still let you use the compressor it's worth a shot.
