How tall are you??

Hello all, I'm new to the forums and have already picked up a wealth of knowledge from all of the great contributors! I look forward to learning more and becoming a contributor myself soon!

I'm looking at a 71 C10 SWB (my first classic), but it's out of state and I'm curious if I will even fit in the truck. I'm 6'4" and 280 lbs and am wondering if I will be comfortable driving a single cab C10. Would you guys mind giving me your opinion??

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: How tall are you??

It Will be a tight fit with the large stock steering wheel. I use a smaller Grant wheel and have shortened the steering column. Now its real comfortable.
Im 6'4"

Re: How tall are you??

smaller wheel and somewhere here on the board is an easy mod to push the wheel closer to the dash...add in a tilt and you could ride a motorcyle though it....

I'm 6'2" and I have no problem with the wheel, but I could see if I had longer legs and a few more pounds I'd need the tilt and the push mod. I also found that without the in-cab gas tank my bench seat gives a little more and I have some more room.

Re: How tall are you??

Well I am kind of in the same boat as you. I just bought a 69, have not sat in it yet, I am 6' 5" 300lbs. So I am hoping i still fit. Back in high school my buddy had an old farm truck. It was grandpa gradys farm truck, a 72 C10 three on the tree. I remember driving that around no problem at 16 but i was alot lighter and almost as tall as I am now. Later same friend bought a 69 GMC, I remember driving it and no issues. Yeah I know it sounds funny i bough the truck and have not sat in it. A friend has had it for quite awhile. I have known him for over ten years and he has been wanting to sell it for most of that ten years. I had no interest until my 14 year old son and myself stopped by to hang siding on his house and my boy showed interest. I wanted a project for us at his age and I have always liked these trucks so what the hell I bought it. New painted southern box, solid cab and doors. oh yeah and he threw in a 400sb and th350 trans, engine hoist and engine stand. So i am now vested. Room might be a little tight but not bad as long as we dont put crazy large aftermarket seats in them.

Re: How tall are you??

6'5" and 370 (soakin wet ) and it is a litle tight. i have noticed it easier for me on the one truck that has power steering. the one with manual steering is a little harder, but not much.

I'm not tall at 5'10".But,I've been driving these trucks since '73 and never heard anybody complain about space in these trucks until extended cab trucks came out.

Re: How tall are you??

I am 6 foot and 250lbs and I have an 88 Chevy truck steering wheel, 99 Cavalier Bucket seats and a clutch pedal. I am more comfortable in my 68 than I am in my 94 ext. cab or my 98 ext. cab. Chevy trucks

I used to have a 98 cavalier z24 and those were some of the most comfortable seats I've ever had, way better than the heated, leather, power seats in my 01 Tahoe. I am 6'1" and weigh 180 #'s, and 68 GMC is very comfortable to me. I did notice the stock wheel was a little large, the thing that bugged me the most is that if I had a soda in between my legs, when I would turn the wheel it would catch the lid and rip it off or knock it on the floor (Good thing I don't have any carpet/mat ). Now that I have a 13.5" grant wheel I think it is much better, it doesn't feel like I'm driving a bus anymore!

Re: How tall are you??

About 6'5" here and 185 pounds. I bought my 71 3/4 ton a few months ago and just today cut the seat brackets and re-welded them lower to get more headroom. I had enough room to sit upright, but needed to lower the seat to keep from looking at the visor. No way I could see a stoplight if I was stopped at an intersection; had to duck my head to see up there. Lots of room under the seat to lower it a bit. I've had to lower the seat in three of my four cars/trucks. Much better now.

Wow there's alot of big and tall men around this place LOL. I'm 6' 2" and around 220. I'm real comfortable in these trucks in stock form. Can't wait till my 72 is back together and driveable!

to shorten column:

start at post #41.

Also a 13" Grant steering wheel helps with "belly room"

Re: How tall are you??

Put van tilt in mine and pushed column closer to dash. Did it in my driveway. It's a cake walk. Do a little research and you can do it. Lots of room now. Also a late model seat from a 88-94 will give you another 2 inches if I measured correctly.
