Re: The worse thing you could do to our trucks!

We have a winner!!!!!!!!!

That is the most god-awful thing I've ever seen. We know the owner likes it, but the really bad part is that someone else has probably told him it looks cool too. Absolutely hideous!!!!

And fella's, not to stir the pot or anything. But the last time I checked both Mexico and Canada are in N. America. As is the United States of America. So "American Made" is a very loose term these days.

And before I'd let my wife get my truck or boat in a divorce, I burn it to the ground. But my truck & boat are in my name, as is her Xterra. So I guess I'm somewhat covered there.

As for the foreign motor, I agree that is just wrong, even if it does work good. Stick a chevy motor in anything and it's value is increased, IMHO. But anything else is a no-no.

Re: The worse thing you could do to our trucks!

If i had a Datsun straight six from a 240z-280z and my truck needed a engine.. id do the same thing, Ever hear a Datsun inline? they sound great..to me at least. Not to mention, triple weber's and split pipes make the sound even sweeter.

Re: The worse thing you could do to our trucks!

If it were my truck, I wouldn't have stuck a Datsun inline 6 in it, but I'd be apt to put a BMW inline 6 in it (or whatever else I have on hand) - triple the horsepower, raise the redline by 2500, and get better gas mileage. The main thing is that I'd still be driving it, that's what being a 67-72 truck enthusiast is about to me, anyway.

But I like the 292 for what it is already, and I'd like to keep it so I can haul stuff or tow a trailer sometimes. That being said, if the 6 ever dies, I've got a Dodge 360 just sitting that runs great that would be a good transplant candidate (for the money, it's free) that could tow about anything. Can't hardly sell the Dodge engine for anything, so I might as well use it?

Anyway, here's my short list:

you could tear it down to the frame and wait 5-10 years until you get the money to put it back on the road

you could stick a gas hungry engine in it and never be able to afford to drive it

worst of all, you could obsess about what another man has under his hood

Re: The worse thing you could do to our trucks!

In 1995 I went to look at a 1969 C10 near Biloxi Mississippi. The add read 69 shortbed chevy C10 440 A/T. So I think it's a bored out 427 or a misprinted add and they meant to say 454. Well I was wrong it was a 440 Mopar and a 727 A/T behind it. They welded the engine mounts to the frame of the truck it wasn't even in straight! Wow Swamp water rednecks!!!

Sounds cool but good luck keeping it together, lol. I read where Navistar was building a revamped 6.5 that is supposed to be alot stronger but its also $$$$.

Those in the know will tell you that the 240,260,280---300 and 350Z motors are some of the best engines ever built. They typically run well over 300K miles as do their transmissions. Unfortunatly the bodies were crap. The Maxima uses the Z drivetrain and they too run forever. Huck
I have an idea...."Zee-Longhorn" pronounced in my best Peter Sellers accent...LOL!

The worst thing...loan it to a friend or neighbor to "haul" something...unless his name is Chip Foose.

I'll start a thread once I get some pics going. A good friend of mine is big into the oil burners and likes to fab up stuff and is positive that if done right it'll stay together. So I'm willing to give it a run if it will pay off in the long term.
