That's fantastic!!

It is sad to see it go, but there are times that practicality has to be addressed. Our Suburban has been a wonderfual addition to the fleet. Until it became functional, I never realized how easy it could make things that previously required some logistical planning. Now, there are only three of us, but when the family comes over and we are all heading out somewhere we can all pile in the Sub and travel in one vehicle as a family unit, or when my boy's friend/s need a ride to the birthday party or hauling the massive pile of loot that they receive for Christmas/birthdays from family and friends back to the house. There have been a few times that I wished that I started with a pickup so I could put a slide in camper in it or haul big stuff to the dump, but all in all, I wouldn't trade it for anything now. It is one of those "how did I ever get along without it?"

After seeing how nice your truck came out, I'm looking forward to seeing how whatever you get turns out.

Sucks to hear, and sucks even more that I didn't get over there to see her in person, but it sounds like you made the right choice. I don't think I'm that far behind you with our big move coming up.

Did you get anything else yet? I thought I read something about a black vehicle, just wondering.

Re: The end of an era........

Seems like your kid was just like me. One of the most fond memories I have with my dad is restoring our '68 GMC pickup. I'm gonna be selfish here and say get a first gen Blazer. Your truck was nice and I'd love to see you over on our K5 thread. I'd say to go try to find one as soon as possible.

Re: The end of an era........

I really do manage to always miss the big news, I'm doing a search for C30 Campers and God knows why but I find your post amongst the hits informing us you've sold the stepper....I think 2 or 3 flies flew in my mouth it was open for so long as I read through all this Of course i'm over the moon for ya buddy, there's another little ankle biter on the way and that is the best news of all, your a great bloke and well respected here...Congrats to you and yours!

But you know the only natural progression for a Chevy Truck guy with a growing family is nothing less than a great big beautiful......Ford Explorer

Get the Suburban Doug, you know have too, it's the GM law.

Re: The end of an era........

I hate to hear about you selling your truck Doug, but I totally understand. I just handed over the keys to my '69 shop truck last week. Our house burned in May, so I had to think the herd myself. On a lighter note, before the house burned, I bought a M1009 military Blazer, and I'm able to haul my 3 kids around with me, and its convertible! The old diesel is getting around 21 mpg around town, and my little boy loves it more than any of old cars and trucks, including my '69 Camaro. The Camaro was his favorite until I got Daddy's "War Wagon" as he calls it.

Re: The end of an era........

I KNOW how hard it is. Family is first. I remember many, many motorcycles going away (HD's and BMW's I built, rode and showed) in order to meet the family budget constraints over the last 38 years.

After they (three great girls) were raised and through college, I built the '72. This time, just because I wanted to do "something else", I sold her. Also to a great guy

But that was a very stupid move. Or was it?

In doing so, I learned something. I learned that, for me, the process of building is almost as good as the driving the finished truck (are they ever?) down the street, listening to the twin 40-Series Flowmasters, and often getting a "thumbs up". I also learned that getting the truck in a mag, or winning (just local) shows, was secondary to the build. Even given the problems and the pain (and the cash..."choke").

And all of that is waaaay back behind bouncing the kids on my knee. For the last 20 years or so, they have been off raising their own families. Even though I get to play with the grand kids, I long for the days we all spent together in our own little nest.

But, GOOD NEWS!. I still get to build a new truck. Screw that Jeep I had to sell in order to do it!!!!!

Congrats to you for opening the door to your next build. Whenever that is.
