Question Folding Bench Seat for '69 C/10 ?

O.K. , I tried the search engine and didn't find anything .

I need a folding backrest stock bench seat for my '69 C/10 , before I go buy the wrong one from a '72 , do they all interchange from '67 ! '72 ? .

I hope to buy a good used folding bench and have it re covered, they
re really cheap in all the scrap yards once the covers are gone .

Don't waste time telling me to simply remove the rear most side bolt on each backrest support , that's not going to work , I read that B.S. here before and took my nice original seat apart , I need a true folder with a pivot , not junk .

TIA ,

No B.S. here. The only stock fold down back seats I have seen were from a '67 or early '68.

Hope this helps.

Re: Folding Bench Seat for '69 C/10 ?

hmm didnt know they made them but I'm guessing all 6 years had the same bolt pattern for the seat mounts so if you find one thats in a 67-72 then id say it will fit in your 69 but dont hold me to that

I thought they were all folding, since the gas tank is behind there. I bought mine from a local guy but idk what year it's out of.

Re: Folding Bench Seat for '69 C/10 ?

All 67-72 bench seats will interchange, as they have the same mounting brackets. I have found the only ones that fold forward however have been out of 67-68 trucks. And you are right, there are a ton of them at the junkyards here.

As shyguy and ledd have already stated above, look for an original bench out of a 67 or 68.

Ledd, that first part is true as they all used the same overall mounting footprint, but on that second part it should be noted that the lower bench frames and bench mounting bracket & track height changed between 67-72 at least twice if not three times (I would need to dig around a bit to confirm a third). Thanks for the clarification Mel. I know the brackets themselves had some differences, but I just wanted to get the point across that all bench brackets will bolt to the floor regardless of the year. If you have a pic depicting the differences, that would be awesome info.

Thumbs up Re : THANK YOU !

As I don't see many '67 /'68's in my local yards , I'll just keep an eye out ~

I looked at those nice repop original typ covers and have decided to custom rebuild me a nice rock hard one , I have a broken back so a firm seat , no foam , is very important .

I'll get on the search , anyone in the So. Cal. area who spots one in a Pick-A-part give me a shout and I'll grab it .

My '76 GMC came with the ridgid backrest , I found an '83 with the folder and grabbed it , the floor mounts were the same so that was possibly the best $35 I spent on that truck .

Again , THANK YOU for the help ! I'm a dedicated InLiner guy so I hope I can return the help , I can tune these old beasts to run very sweetly indeed .

I'm taking out a seat like you're describing out of my 67. It's in fairly good condition. Hopefully I will have it out in the next two weeks. It is black. Has a tear along the seam on drivers side. Other than that, it's all good. I'm in Huntington Beach if you care to see it.

The '67 seat I have has springs and foam in the back. Could you get a full foam seat in '67?

Nice looking truck!

Are those Texas plates on there? Looks like some Texas Registration and safety inspections stickers on the windshield also.

Good luck!

Thumbs up Re : My New Old Truck

Yes ~ this was a Ranch truck somewhere in TEXAS , I was unable to find any shortbed L6 powered trucks in So. Cal., prolly they all got Hot Rodded years back .

I found it in Dallas , bought it and drove it home via those wonderful two lane blacktop roads it was made to run , I love touring America in my oldies , I do not own a modern car or truck .

As the mechanicals are somewhat suspect , it took me nearly a whole case of oil to get it home but I'm working on sorting it out whilst continuing to drive , work and enjoy it very much ~ a typical GM product , it can be seriously neglected or abused and still be everything one ever wanted in a truck . that's why I'm a Bowtie Guy 'till I die ! .

The paint is actually rather weathered , I'm not sure what kinda wax they used but I wish I did ! . it looked terrific if suspect , as soon as that wax wore off , it looks like just another old truck .

I've only had it since August last year and already nearly 10,000 miles on it .

Re: Folding Bench Seat for '69 C/10 ?

Well I think you have a rather neat truck. I'm not the biggest fan of the wagon wheels but I think they look good on your truck.

Wow! A whole case of oil!?! Did you have any problems on the drive to California? I would be interested to hear about your trip home.

Thanks for sharing.

By the way, my seat is out of a 1968 GMC and it does fold forward. I may be incorrect but I believe all of the bench seats from 1967-1972 will fold forward if the wingnut(s) are removed. The bench seat covers from the 1969 and up usually have a covering over the mechanism that will allow the seat back to fold forward.

Post Re : Folding Bench Seat for '69 C/10 ?

I rather like this truck , the cheapo 1970's vintage American Racing wagon wheels are scrap and will be gone soon , new tires and all .

I recently found an identical C/10 in a junkyard with the four original 15" steel wheels , I bought them , lucky me it was 1/2 price day so they were $14 each , including the worthless old tires they normally gouge you to either but or pay to have removed .

I sent the wheels off to the powder coater , they're white now as will be both bumpers ere long .

I got lucky and found the 5th stock wheel , for the spare , on a Task Force junker last week , it needs to be bead blasted then painted or powder coated , I have the new LT 28.2" O.D. tires on order , I can hardly wait to get them mounted up .

The trip was fun , as always I had daily tinkering to do , the same day I bought the rig I hit up various .99 Cent Stores and Pick 'N Saves , assembled a basic toolkit and got some lubricants in Foo-Foo cans as the door locks didn't work etc. apparently this old truck spent most of it's life just sitting out on the ranch before the goof ball bought it and proceeded to be mean to it ~ crappy Mechanical works by uncaring or perhaps vicious old rig haters , damaged quite a bit and nothing they did , was done correctly .

As far as I can tell , they installed a rebuilt short block after a rod went through the side of the block , the old head has terribly wobbly valve guides so it smokes a fair bit upon initial startup cold or hot plus smokes on trailing throttle but has zero blowby .

On another forum , I posted daily drive reports , I don't really do the blog thing but many know I'm a Journeyman Mechanic with a special affinity towards InLine engines , especially StoveBolts .

I have a 40 year habit of rescuing junk and driving it home , tinkering and having a swell time , all the way home .

I hope this will be the last ' keeper ' Shop Truck I ever buy as I'm not young anymore .

There ARE NO WINGNUTS on the seats of these trucks ! at least not in the '69 ~ '72 models , I've been checking every one I find in the yards . it has two fixed bolts at each side .

Hopefully Bagger John's seat will be what I need or at least give me the details I need to know .

Does anyone known why I can't post a classified ad ? I have a nice Muncie SM465 tranny for sale dirt cheap .

I'm pretty sure I posted an intro message detailing some of the fun I've had , look for it and ask there , I'll tell you all about the myriad troubles , issues and wrong / damaged parts I've had to fix already .

This is a GREAT TRUCK ! .

Post Re : Folding Bench Seat UPDATE

O-Kay then ;

Dano's Yard Sale set me up with a nice old '67 folding back rest bench seat , I took it to PerezAuto Trimmers in Pasadena (626) 700.7945 , he did a nice job of rebuilding it and I had him enclose the back part & add three large pockets to it so now I have a place for my map book , windshield sun shade , etc. etc. .

It's nice and firm too ~ just the thing for an old man's broken back .

I gave the old seat in VGC to ' 50BOMB ' , he's in Garden Grove if anyone would be so kind as to carry it down there to him....

Re: Folding Bench Seat for '69 C/10 ?

I wanted a full foam seat (back and bottom) that also folded forward. Learned that it was not an option so I took my old spring back seat and found a full foam back seat cut the bottom part that hinges off my spring seat and welded on the foam back frame along with the stops. It is at the upholstery shop right now getting covered.

I'll post some pics when I get it back.

I just wanted to say I think you are my kinda guy, not afraid to take on a "suicide mission" when it comes to these trucks. Put together a kit bag and hit the road. I think it's a lost art. I like your truck as much as any of the shiney big money trucks on here (including mine) and glad you joined this forum.

Post Re : Road Trip

Who , me ? .

I'm just an old guy who loves old vehicles and being out on the road....

I've done this many times over ,my big brother usually waits until we're several states from home before telling me he neglected to check the air in the spare , or replace that leaky water pump etc.....

Being a Field mechanic since I was a child , makes this sort of thing fun for me ~ I get to see many places other miss and I meet all manner of nice people too .
If you were referring to some else , sorry I barged in .

Yes, you Nate. I was talking about improvising, repairing on the fly and keep rolling. Not alot of us left who can jump into a rolling wreck with a bag of tools and actually make it to where we have to be, no matter what the road throws at us. My Dad loves the InLines especially the Roadmaster Straight 8.
