Factory color of rear license plate holder/bracket? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I bought a custom sheetmetal box license plate holder for my 69 fleetside that raises the license plate up even with the bottom of the bumper. I wanted to powdercoat it so it kinda looks factory correct. I see all of the repro brackets are black, but somewhere I thought I saw that from factory they were argent or silver. This is the part that bolts into the center of the fleetside rear bumper and has the lamp housing for the tag. Anybody know what color they were originally? I was going to hit it with satin black, but before I do I wanted to see what you all thought. Pic of what I'm talking about

I should mention, I bought a repo., and yeah black. Then picked up an OEM. Can't swear it's the original black, but it looks it.

If any of you fellas with the silver argent brackets get bored and want to post a pic of It for me, I won't be mad. 😁 My truck and my 2 parts trucks all had the bumpers removed before I got them. My thought is the argent would blend better with the chrome bumper, but how much of that bracket do you really see when a plate is on there?

There was a thread on this several years ago. The conclusion was that it was silver.

I'm glad you saw this!! Well that solves it - silver/argent it is. Cant get anymore factory correct than your original owner truck. Doesn't look good in black for sure. More of it shows than I'd imagined too.

Original owner? Yes.
Original bumper? No.

The truck was ordered without a bumper. I changed from the original aftermarket telescoping step bumper to the sport bumper when I restored the truck.

Incidentally, these brackets were used on vans for many years. I believe, until the mid 90s.

How would a chrome license plate mounting bracket look? Has anyone seen these or tried them? Opinions?
