New cab mounts cab to high?

Put in new mounts and I torqued them to factory specs . Now the cab seems to high almost like getting into a 4x4 . 1968 c20 rubber mounts not poly. May just be me but its seems to just be too high compared to the bed.

Re: New cab mounts cab to high?

as long as the sheet metal lines up from cab to grill put a couple spacers under the bed to shim it up

Re: New cab mounts cab to high?

I can't judge anything from those pics, but in my experience with my C20, I learned that during the last repaint, they body worked to the sagging cab's bodywork line. The result is that they moved the trim, and I'm sure they tried lowering the bed.

It was easier to spot with my fleet side...

Mark,
I'm just putting my truck back together, I installed the small about 1/4" pads under the box. I never removed the cab so didn't do anything with it. When I installed the radiator support I installed new rubber mounts, everything was fine until I tried mounting the front fenders. There was a 1/4" gap at the top and you could stick you thump in at the bottom and not have it touch. I ordered rubber cab mounts and after installation it made all the difference in the world. I know the mounts are different for 2 and 4 wheel drives and maybe 1/2 and 3/4 ton. I would make sure you have the right ones and then wait until you start installing the fenders. Install new ones on Rad. support also. Mine came with shims, I installed without, but had to go back and install them to make everything line up. The shims on mine were square washers and I just cut a notch in them so all I had to do was take a little was lift the cab enough to slide them in instead of having to remove the bolt. Hope this helps. Love the color....

Put the passenger side on it lines up fairly well . I had put new radiator support mounts in so I figured it needed the body came with those big metal shims but I didnt put them on . Mine is a 20 so they are different than the 10.It may be me because I was so used to the cab corner lower than the bed step. There was nothing under the mounts on the bed not even a remnant of a pad . I guess I'll get used to it

Re: New cab mounts cab to high?

Going to have to shim the rad support. Gap is good at the top of the fenders and tight in the bottom .

Where did you get your assembly manual? If I Google it, there are lots of vendors that have them, but I'm not sure if they're all the same or not.

Re: New cab mounts cab to high?

I got the manual from the PO. He also gave me a CD factory assembly manual and shop manual at the same time. Have no idea as to where he got them from.

The factory assembly manual is 1064 pages and doesn't have an index. That makes it a bit of PITA to find information. One thing I do know is if the part was delivered as an assembly it really doesn't give you a break down. An example was the front cross assembly and frame body mount location dimensions.

I don't know if you have tried the CD or not. Mine has a search function and it makes finding stuff pretty easy. You have to know the GM terminology though.

There is also an index for the printed version floating around on the board somewhere that some of the members made up.

Re: New cab mounts cab to high?

Thanks LockDoc. I'll need to check out the CD hopefully it is like yours where it is searchable. Right now my manual looks like a big sunflower with all the post-a-note tabs in it.

Re: New cab mounts cab to high?

I got the spreadsheet somewhere, and ordered the paper FAM. I then numbered the pages when I got bored with other stuff. It took less time than you might think.

Re: New cab mounts cab to high?

What condition were your old cab mounts in???

Can you run a string, using the body lines on the fenders and the doors to see where they line up??? It's way easier on a fleet side, the bedside line is right there next to the cab, not so easy on a step side.

Re: New cab mounts cab to high?

Sometimes with aftermarket Taiwan stuff you gotta mod new parts to get them to work. Maybe split the difference by cutting the bushings down and shimming the bed. You could send the bushings back and try a different brand.

They were shot . It's been pretty crappy here so I haven't worked on the truck. Im going to hang the clip on it the doors are looking good passenger fender not so much but Its an aftermarket. I have both OEM fenders that I'll try this week .

I'm going to pull the rear and check the metal sleeve to see if it's the same length as the originals

Either way it's to high. This is after torqued to 60 ft pounds 1.23 from top of frame rail to floorboard

Re: New cab mounts cab to high?

I think the problem with the assembly manual is its showing for a c10 my truck is a 20 the diagram shows the top of the mount is higher than the frame. Mines is well below the frame
