I read on this board a little while back about someone (or their wife) that restores license plates. It was embedded in another thread and I don't know what the original topic was, so am unable to locate it. Is anyone aware of someone that restores license plates for fairly reasonable?

I'm guessing you were reading one of C/10 Kings threads. I think his wife does do the plates for his trucks but I don't believe she is in the business of doing it for others. I could be wrong. Never hurts to ask, anyway.

They don't sell reproduction plates for California. I bought a set of black plates off of a member here, I just need to spurce them up a bit....

A friend had a set of plates restored by a guy he found at the Pomona swap meet, they are exceptional, they look brand new.

I assume you verified with the DMV they are clear? Also I would get them registered to your vehicle before restoration, DMV can reject plates that have been modified in including repainting. My neighbor had a beautifully restored set rejected, he went to a different DMV office only to find they put a record on his tag number that it was determined to be modified and not suitable for registration. Just don't want to see you get suck.

Make sure you can run the plates before you get them restored. The DMV recycles old numbers.

Also get it registered before restoring as they have been known to not like restored plates. Probably 10% of the cases from what I hear.
