42 gal gas tank

I tried posting this in the Suburban section and got no response.
I need more range in my 69 Suburban!!! I'm looking at swapping out the 21 gal. tank for a 42 gal.
Has anyone tried the diesel tank for a 94 to 99 Suburban? I'm curious if the stock sending unit from my 69 will fit the newer diesel tank. If not then I would be looking at the gas 42 gal. tank from a 92-97 Suburban. Same question though, will the sending unit from my 69 work on the newer one? The problem I see with the gas tank is it has 2 extra holes in it that I would have to figure out how to plug.

Re: 42 gal gas tank

Im not well versed on the later Sub tanks but am pretty sure that there were 31 and 35 gallon tanks offered in the earlier Subs / Blazers (square body). I got a 31gal. from an '89 Blazer in my truck. Went in pretty easy. Was able to change out the pump to the later FI pump real easy as well. Going from a 17 gal to nearly double is working out pretty well so far.

Thanks, I don't want to change to an FI. I would really prefer to stay with the oe sender. I know they make a 40 gal for the earlier subs that will fit, I was just hopping the 42 gal diesel tank would work.

Why not use the newer sending unit.. just remove the pump and add length to the feed line and put a tank sock filter at the line end..
,,

The fuel gauge sender should be standard gm 0-90 ohm

Re: 42 gal gas tank

40 gallon square body fuel tanks from the 70's - early '80's are available new (and cheap on RockAuto)

I would worry more that the arm on the original sender would be different and not read accurately.
