Post "Project Holeshot" 67 C-10

Well here goes. I've been here for a while and just getting around to making some posts finally. Well fianlly picked up my spare 67 frame. Bought it all last May and the spare frame was cornered in the back of this guys yard. So heres the info. 67 big window, frame cab is on someone hung a solid axle under. AC cab. Body work was done a while back and has been sitting for a while. Gotta go through and knock off a little surface rust and re prime it. Overall body seems to be all steel and original. Bed is mint and got a real nice set of rear fenders. Gonna start with the spare frame and strip and paint up. Looking to go with 4/6 drop but still trying to decide. Maybe 3.5/5. From all the pics i've looked at tire size is the biggest issue trying to get them all figured out. Got a nice 350 with performer rpm heads 11 to 1 pistons, made about 315 to the tire in a camaro. so here a few pics i'll et some better ones of he frame today.

truck looks nice, fairly clean from what i can tell, and i sure do like those wide tires on your new frame, that is how it is meant to be.

Re: Project 67 C-10

Well today hit the chassis with a pressure washer to get most of the dirt and grease off. Completely stripped frame down to frame rails and cross members. Gotta order up some POR15 this week and paint it up. Hrd to believe it was almost 60 today and tomorrow it's gonna be mid 30's with snow and rain. I'm gonna try NUKE1 idea and keep track of time.
Total Time: 5 hrs.

Re: Project 67 C-10

Nuke 1 those tires are 295's but the wheels are 6 lug and i'm probably goin 5 lug. Heres some pics of the frame before and after the strip down. Ordered up the POR 15 today and got to start sandblasting some of the suspension parts tomorrow. Gonna clean up the center weld on the truck arms and weld a bead across the top and smooth out. Last picture does anyone know what these motor mounts are they were bolted only to the top of the frame and don't really line up with anything.

Re: Project 67 C-10

Painted up the frame and put another coat on the upper and lower control arms. Might drop off the trailing arms to be sandblasted this week. Ordering up parts tomorrow. Goin with the 3.5/ 5 drop to be on the safe side. The roads around here kinda blow so that exra inch in the back i'll still be hitting the bumpstops. Gotta flip the frame over and hit the underside in a few spots, didn't feel like getting paint dripped on my head today. It also strated spitting snow this afternoon, not cool.
Today: 2.5 hours
Total: 17 hours This is starting to become like a second job but it's taking my money instead. at least fishing seasons around the corner.

Re: Project 67 C-10

Well time for the weekly update. Flipped over the frame and gave it a nice coating and a once over. Theres still a few spots to deal with but i didn't feel like getting my whole arm covered in POR just to get behind some brackets. I'll letit dry and go after the latter i'm bound to have missed a few more anyways. Front end parts are all painted up finally and cleaned and painted some miscellaneous parts. Ended up just going at the crevice in the trailing arms with a screwdriver and wirebrush and a thick coat of POR. I'll be dead before these would probably rot out but i may try my hand at mkaing some down the road. Might as well get it together first. To anyone using POR 15 make sure you ape up ANYTHING you don't want covered. I knew the stuff was good but i got some in the areas where the lower and upper shafts screw into the control arms well theres an extra 4.5 hours in this week to clean that screwup. Finally did order up the drop kit. ECE is behind on the spindels so it'll be a few weeks till i see them but there shipping everything else out. Great to deal with. Also ordered up the front end parts. New ball joints tie rod ends and idler arm. Still have to figure out the pitman arm and the adjusting sleeves. The box is a newer unit cause stop to stop it's only 3.5 turns. I got to post on the main forum when im done. Probably should pass the rest of my Art History assignment in first though. I couldn't find a smiley jumping off of a bridge so this will do.

Time: somewhere around 10 hours
Total Time: 27 hours

Re: Project 67 C-10

All right been a while. All the parts have come in and assembly started. Lots and lots of painting. Spindles have been POR'd and I hit them and the front and rear springs as well as the center link with silver topcoat. Really got alot done this weekend. Rear is rolling on the old rearend right now till i find a 71 on 5 lug and the front just needs a few things to get painted and it'll be ready to hang on the rotors and wheels.

Keep the wheels!! I have those on my truck and they look awesome all shined up. Lets see some of the pictures of your frame, did you go for a gloss or semi gloss paint on the frame and suspension?

Re: Project 67 C-10

*Dylan -- Yeah i guess i have been lacking on the pics lately. Went semi gloss on the frame basically because i got a good deal on it. I would say based on if you have a heavier rusted frame the gloss POR 15 would be better for you because from what i hear the semi gloss they thin out. The wheels arn't bad but there six lug and i'm going five. I've already got the front discs they'll be going on this weekend along with the cab and nose hopefully. Still looking for a 5 lug rearend. Most of the parts up here have seen there demise to a crusher unfortunately in the past years. Your lucky to see anything older than an 85 in the junkyards around here.

Re: Project 67 C-10

Here's some updated photos over the past week.

Some boxes from ECE and some more parts. That motor on the ench is for a John Deere GP. The pistons are like 5" round and the piston rods are like 14" long. it's mean.

Spindles painted with POR 15 and then POR Stirling Silver

Springs and Trailing Arms

Assembly!!!!!!!!

Full View

Rear end for now.

Drivers Side

This is the engine bay of i think it was a 48 studebaker pickup. This guy does custom fabrication and dropped in a dodge inline 6 with a custom fabed up intake for fuel injection with a BMW throttle body and a grand national turbo with a audi intercooler. This thing is awesome. He also has a willys truck with a top fuel motor from the 70's in it.

Re: Project 67 C-10

~2low67~I'm already kinda planning my next truck out Big Block and just drive it stock and was thinkin on just keeping these around for that but if i change my mind i'll let you know.

~We got that big swap meet at Comcast Center in Mansfield next week hoping to find some parts up there.

~Update went this morning to look at a GMC Yukon 98 with a blown motor. Picking it up for $800 and gonna use it as a beach and tow vehicle. Also got myself a 5 lug rearend lined up. Out of a late 80's generation actually it's got a rebuilt motor in it and i'm gonna use that motor in the Yukon. $800 for the Yukon and $25 for the truck. $825 and i got a new truck and my rearend not to bad.

Re: Project 67 C-10

Been a while but i've been working on the truck here and there. Got my yukon running with a revamped motor so got a tow and beach rig which really put a side track to the 67 but enough of that. Kind of hit a wall trying to figure out my color. Really got ahead of myself cause i got to transplant the cab still and finish up the frame. Picking up my 5 lug rear end this week and got my brackets from early classic. Ordered up cpp tubular motor mounts and some pads and got my tranny crosmember out and painted. Bought a fuel cell off a buddy and have to figure out how to mount that up. Lots of companies have deals going on so trying to make some orders so my parts get here before the holidays. Got a whole week off week of new years so got to get crackin.
