Heavy vibration when turning left

1970 Chevy C10, stepside, 2wd, 396ci. I had manual steering and installed a power steering kit from Tuckers (pump, gearbox, lines). After installing, it had vibrations when turning. Thought it was a bad new (remanufactured) pump so I returned it and installed replacement. Now good steering straight and when turning right, but it shakes/shimmies bad when turning left, especially at lower speeds like in a parking lot. Good fluid, no air. No play in steering. When turning while on jacks with engine on and off, it seems to turn fine both directions.

Re: Heavy vibration when turning left

Do you have dropped spindles and 8" rims on front? If so get under there and look at the lower control arm around the ball joint area and wheel lip for contact. It can feel like that. Mine did.

I'll look. I have 2 1/2" drop spindles and 12" rims. Thanks.

Re: Heavy vibration when turning left

Found out my passenger side header was contacting the frame. When I removed it, also found out it was the wrong header for the truck. Thanks to the guy I bought the truck from last summer, huh?! lol

Angry Re: Heavy vibration when turning left

At least they didn't take a torch to the frame to make clearance like my PO did.

Talking Re: Heavy vibration when turning left

I installed 2 1/2" drop spindles on mine, and the lower control arms (where the ball joint is pressed in) hit the wheels (stock 15" X 8" rally's) so, I had to clearance the area it was hitting the rims took off as little material off the control arm as possible, so it didn't weaken the ball joint area. Probably could have fixed the issue running 15" x 6" rims, but I wanted the wider rims......
Glad it is as simple as a header fit issue, but those headers aren't cheap, even the inexpensive ones cost a bundle. glad you got it sorted out.

Re: Heavy vibration when turning left

I finally found out what I did. I installed new valve covers and the drivers side cover was making contact with the firewall. I dented in the corner of the valve cover and and am completely vibration free, drives like a dream.
