i cant believe this, i took the tape player out that was in the truck when i bought it, i tought my dash was completely cut out, they when i was taking it out i saw that it had holes still and was getting excited and then this!!!!!! aargh, why would someone just cut this little bit out, e expected a big hole, i wouldveloved to have an uncut dash, but this just pisses me off. oh well, guess no i ahve an excuse to finaly put a cd player in it

The hole on the left looks like the same as my dash. the previous owner wired a button there for the horn.

I also have a hole there in my dash. I recently drilled mine, and it now holds a toggle switch for the heater fan (the lever broke off

). My cab already has a cut dash, as well as rust above the windshield, so its junk and i really don't care how many holes it has in it.

I welded a hole about that big on my dash. If you have a welder you might give that a try. Use a piece of copper as a backer and weld it shut, then grind smooth. (cover all damagable parts including all glass!) You should be able to fix the radio holes by welding and grinding too. When done, you won't even know there was any damage.

Maybe they ran a manual choke thru the hole. That's about where mine was when I bought the truck.

My 72 Custom Camper had the exact same hole, only on the right side of the radio. I just assumed it had to do with the Custom Camper package, trailer brake, etc. Couldn't think of anything else.

Now you can cut the radio holes out and put a real CD player in there and you wont feel too bad. Although why you'd feel bad about doing that in the firs place is a complete mystery to me.

I'm about to hack mine up a little further and remove the ashtray to install a sattellite radio receiver below the cd player

I dont know about the little hole on the left, but thats pretty much what my dash looked like.

apparently.. the 70s radios were larger inthe center than the stockers i nour trucks, so they were probablly cut to make room for them..

just cut the thin now,its already started! mine was all f*ckered up already, not cut, but bent and the steel between the center and the left hole was broken through, so I cut the damn thing, I'm glad to have my CD player again! now time to find a way to fit 2 12" subs

and I got that hole too, back up light switch on mine, don't adjust the factory switch, make a manual one.. then the starter button is a little lower than that too. oh well, I'm glad they put a 454 in it

my 72 3/4 ton, the one that i am using the cab for a frame up, has a perfect dash, but its getting hacked to hell and back, i might shave everythign off, glovebox and everything, thats 5 years down the road though.

Count me in too, for the mystery hole! I have one in the same place, and it has circular scuff marks around the hole, as if something used to go there. I was curious if it was for a choke as well, since my old beast refuses to idle by itself, until it's warmed up a little.

Back in the mid-70's, I was working at Sears Auto Center (while laid off from Alcoa)...anyway, folks would bring in their vehicles to get AM/FM radios installed in lieu of the AM radios that they already had. I'm gonna betcha that a buncha dashes got cut then, just so they could have stereo! Heck, I still want a reverb. Whoa! Maybe that extra hole was for the reverb control knob. Then, again, it could be for the orbiter knob. The ejection seat switches were safety-wired with copper .020 wire to prevent their accidental activation. There would be two more smaller holes for the screws that held the cover, one above and one below, if it was the ejection seat switch.

LOL those are pretty creative radio knob shaft holes,id leave them!!!! good conversation piece,if a nice cab,if fix it.or stick a radio delete in it,and a toggle switch delete.
