My first clue was the ride in the yet unregistered 73 Blazer. Just replaced the master cylinder and took it for a test ride. It seemed to be crabbing down the street some. I figured I gotta check tire pressure. So, the test drive tells me I need to add some ATF because she's slipping bad - slammed into 1st at two different stops. I get it home top off the ATF and decide to take her to the corner gas station for a little go juice. While I'm fueling, I look at the stretched taut Ebrake cable. I thought, "That doesn't look right.."
And I attrbute it to the 4 inch lift the P/O put on her. Then I look at the axle plate, u-bolts and spring pack and noticed the centering pin about 3 inches aft of the rear of the plate.

No more thinking, That REALLY Ain't Right!!

I guess the 2 years since she's been driven much at all, and the tranny slamming, she managed to walk the axle. The other side looks OK.

Looks like I've got a Sunday project...

Here's the pics...
First the Passenger side , showing the wheel & axle, relatively, centered in the well. And the EBrake cable flexed....

And now the drivers side... Note the taut cable and gaps forward & aft of the wheel...

Thing really drive funny like that! Any advice or cautions???

Well, you may have to run out the bolts for both sides on your u-bolts. this will let is slide back into the place better. This is best if you use jack stands on the frame and a floor jack under the axle so you can get it lined up better.

My thoughts are someone didn't put a long enough center pin in that spring. It should be almost impossible to have that axle walk if it's pinned properly

I've never done an axel. Is the spring pack drilled thru all the leafs?? Should I look into a new pin??

Yes, it is thru all of them. If it looks like it's rounded or short, then you my need a new one.

Found a pin from the scrapped 79 K20 that worked. Torquing it was fun! My shoulders are killing me! She tracks true now though.
