Re: 1961 Apache SB SBW build

Last night my wife and I were able to get the front end bolted in. Its rather difficult to find 7/16 grade 8 fine thread bolts. So we bought some course thread and locking washers along with some loctite. Im sure it isnt going anywhere. We still have to figure the locations of the shock mounts, tie rods etc... Then its on to figuring out the steering (we hope to add power steering). Anyway heres the latest pic.

Re: 1961 Apache SB SBW build

Update!
Rear brake lines replaced. New Wheel Cylinders, hardware and shoes. Drums will be painted body color. Then on to the the front. Once the front brakes are done we'll have a roller, onto the cab body work.

Re: 1961 Apache SB SBW build

Little more done.
We've gone as far as we can for now on the chassis. So we wheeled the cab out and got a lot done today. We removed the heater, master cylinder, and cleaned up the fire wall. Primed the firewall. Then started to replace the rigt cab corner. Here's a pic of Cyndy welding on the cab corner. Our first time welding, lets just say we need to learn alot.
Thats it for now G&C

Re: 1961 Apache SB SBW build

Quick update were working on the cab. getting it ready to mount back to the chassis. Trying to free up some room in the garage. Here are some pics. Fire wall and interior painted. The floor has been completed, and we used spray on bedliner to seal it up.

Pretty much, each day we pick a station on Pandora, crank the tunes and go at it..

Of course, money and time is all it takes, when you have one, you dont have much of the other.

What did you do to get those small center hole wheels to fit on the big centered axle shaft on the rear?

Re: 1961 Apache SB SBW build

We bought one inch spacers/adapters. The new
Wheels have a difference of a 1 inch offset.
We originally bought 4 but with the newer
Front end (73/87) we don't need any in the
Front.

Re: 1961 Apache SB SBW build

It was with in a quarter inch. The wheels rubbed.
With the one inch offset they were within 1/4 inch

Re: 1961 Apache SB SBW build

Narrower or wider? Sorry for all the questions I have a set of '05 17" silverado wheels for my '62. I was just thinking of machining down the cent of my rear shafts to fit the wheels.

Re: 1961 Apache SB SBW build

Narrower these were 07. 16 inch wheels
Off a Tahoe or suburban. The axle center
Hole was too small. Not knowing at the time
We had an offset problem. We ordered the
Adapters. So one problem was solved by the
Other.
