fiberglass front bumper

VFN is now showing a fiberglass front bumper for the 67-70 trucks.

http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/site.htm

I knew it was asked here before about a glass bumper and couldn't find where anyone actually found one.

I will try and weigh my factory 67 bumper tonight, I'm sure they will be close to the same weight.

Re: fiberglass front bumper

Front bumper is right at 25 lbs. I had a glass one made but never used it. I didnt want to worry about breaking it and I like my chrome. Its somewhere in Kenneth Herrings shop I havent seen it in years lol.

Re: fiberglass front bumper

Nice. I wish they'd make front inner and outer fenders for our trucks.

They have inner fenders.

I don't know why these links only go to the main page and page with the part I'm looking at. It may be because I'm pulling them up on my phone.

Re: fiberglass front bumper

How much are the vfn bumpers? I qanted to make my own but it would be easier to cut a glass one up and reshape it.

Re: fiberglass front bumper

Looks like they are $160 + shipping. I got a chance to check the weight of my factory '67 chrome bumper to be 26lbs.

Re: fiberglass front bumper

LOL bumper on order. Oversize shipping sucks for a 41/2 pound piece. We will see how it looks in a month I guess.

Re: fiberglass front bumper

Recieved the bumper today. They say its real lite and a real nice piece. Funny it was shipped yesterday from Texas. Vfn charged 80 dollars to take an order on the phone and ship a part they never touched. Shakedownracing made it just a few hours away from me.

Nice. How do they fit? Did you weigh them vs the stock steel inners?

Re: fiberglass front bumper

the glass inner fenders are molded off a stock inner fender. They have the wrinkles and all just like the stock steel ones. They dont have the bolt holes in them. I have a 28" tall tire so they have to be raised some. The plan is to make a flange on the inside of the fender to bolt it to . Im sort of test fitting one now. It has to be cut to clear the shocks and upper control arms. I think the back part by the cab will be cut also for the headers. Planning fender well headers. Im just trying to get all the front end to bolt up and line up at this point.

Re: fiberglass front bumper

Its nice. Was made in Texas. Bumper is lite. Guy did a good job. Scoop will be here today , still waiting on the hood . Hopefully next week or so. Its starting to look like a truck again. New upper control arms are on now and looks like that problem was resolved .Thanks Nathan Porter. New door is on , so getting close to sheetmetal working time.

Re: fiberglass front bumper

Ha ha ! I didnt tell you that Shakedown made my bumper. That bumper was made from a mold off my chrome one. He charged me 200 bucks back then because he had to make a mold. I guess I should have suggested Shakedown but you never know how the companies outsource things.

Re: fiberglass front bumper

Is that an aluminum core support? What's the scoop on that?

Re: fiberglass front bumper

Yep its aluminum. Autorad did it. Its double wall, so I will lighten the back side some. My truck is a 69 actually and was real rough and rotted. I was not going to pay for a clean straight truck to do what I am doing(every body panel will be changed some). LOL I have replaced everything but the frame rails and they have been changed. If I replace rotted stuff it will be lighter. After checking this core support next to a stock one the holes seem to be correct on the core support. Regan wished I would have known ,could have saved some shipping!!!! LOl your bumper was in good shape. It really is a nice piece and lite 4.5 lbs..Any questions let me know.

Re: fiberglass front bumper

Hey moggey01 which dropmember version are u using....coilover version? Ive been contemplating using the coilover version from Nathan w/ Cro Moly arms to save more weight. I just hate the though of using those heavy azz stock style spindles, wish someone made a fabricated spindle for our trucks. By the way what kinda front rotors are those, looks like a good lite weight piece?

Re: fiberglass front bumper

Yeh mine is a porter built . Changed some stuff on it for my application . Mine is a pro touring coil over . Ride height suposed to get lower . I set mine up at 6" because of the tire sizes . Spindles are the later version from cpp. I took about 6 pounds off mine . I might make some crmo drop spindles before its done . I wanted something stout . His stuff is stout. . Mine are cromo control arms as well. I can get a few more pounds off mine, The sky view guy in oklahoma is suposed to have a nice one. Mine has been a little more involved, relocating engine and trans then trailing arm crossmember trans tunnel .

Re: fiberglass front bumper

The brakes are from the Brake Man . They used a camaro hub and bored it out to fit a c10 bearing package. It uses a spacer behind the back bearing to preload the hub. They are lite . Complete brake hub pads rotors brackets and bolts is 11 or 12 pounds. Mine are a little thicker for street use. It was a custom project they took on. Cory is the man !! Literally
