It’s going pretty well so far really. I’ve been just sneaking in a little time here and there where I can. I work in a machine & fabrication shop so I have access to a lot of tools the average shade tree mechanic may not. Even so, getting the rivets re squished nicely is not fun. I have messed up a couple and had to grind them back out and redo.

Brothers Trucks has a really nice youtube video showing the process of putting in new seals.

I will say, if you want them “nice” like rechromed or powder coated or whatever you are far better off just letting someone do them for you. My truck isn’t super nice but not exactly patina either so I’m just giving the chrome a light scotchbrite and calling it good.

Edit: if you are going to do this don’t forget the glass setting tape. It is not included in the precision vent window seal kit and you need it to put the glass back in the frame.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Fifty-something years ago, glaziers would use a thin sheet of porous rubbe, and wet it with regular motor oil. This dissolved the rubber and it got super tacky, then cured hard with the glass in the frame. I don't think you can get that stuff anymore. I replaced the regulator in my '71 Jimmy in 2006. A friendly glass shop -- they'd just replaced my windshield and trim surround -- let me use some silicone or urethane they had. Industrial stuff. Took 24 hours to harden. We taped the drivers side window and they said not to break the tape for a day. Turned out I was on location in Phoenix, summer of course, and it was at least 114*. I don't have A/C.
The vent windows were fine then. But a PO's sloppy rivet on the drivers side tells me my vent windows were not original.
I kind of rely on winging the vents all the way out for forced air. Us Rednecks call it ''System 2-40.'' Roll down both windows and drive at least 40 MPH.
Early this spring, the tension on the drivers side vent wing went slack. No spring tension al all.* Shaft may have broken, or retaining nut fallen off. Won't know till I pull it.
A couple of years ago [pre-covid] I talked with a guy in the Northwest, who did pairs of vent windows for what I thought then was a lot. His price is double that now.
OER vent window sets are spendy now too.
*For now, Iuse a bunji cord to wing the vent out. Hassle when I have to lock the truck.

Not today really but will be soon. I received my new battery cables from Roger Koop and they are top notch as Rogers stuff usually is. It's just time to replace the 51 year old factory battery cables, especially the negative one.

New plug wires.
Filled radiator.
5 gallons of new gas in the relined tank.
Cranked for 30 seconds.
Pumped go fast pedal.
Cranked for another 10 seconds, she fired up and ran.
Had a gas line, carb/filter leak.
Fixed that. Fired right back up again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

About 10 hours in wet sanding off the hard as nails black spray paint. Nothing would touch it without ruining the original orange under it. Super thin, previous spot paint repairs, scratches, faded to bare in some spots, but going to finish and coat in Sweet Patina. Labor of love or madness, but it’s getting closer! Had the rally wheels blasted and then painted with the Duplicolor Ceramic Engine paint with the van centers. C10 Intervention show in a couple of weeks so have to get it finished this weekend!

Looking good! I approve of the color

Took my wheels over to Les Schwab for dynamic balancing. Currently, the wheels only have weights on the inside lip.

Bluetooth wheels! Agreed on the color, for some reason the Light Orange has always been my favorite! I had to have Americas Tire move mine to stick on weights due to the drop spindles. Even with the lip on the lower control arm ground back they still rubbed with the outer-lip mounted ones.

Thanks man, lots of duct tape on the fingers but still lost a lot of skin🤣! She isn’t perfect, but I am liking the results. Even my wife said she can finally see my vision in removing the black, so I must be succeeding.

Flushed the old brake fluid it was really contaminated with water . Ordered new shoes and dropped off the drums to be turned. Found an old time garage near me that has the drum disc lathe

This is just from the front used almost a quart before it ran clean

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I finally did the manual to power steering conversion. I'm in love again only problem she is a 68 model and I could go for something older that has matured. The 68 is named Jim Boy after a boy named Jim on a farm across the road. Now that I'm in love again I'll have to change it's name to a female calling. I think Beulah fits the bill, which is Jim Boy's mother's name. Jim Boy is his real name, quite the family. Have a good one eh! Ron

Nice looking truck! I wish my truck was blue instead of orange...

I was thinking, ''Wait, What happenned to his paint? Didn't he just repaint the whole rig?''
Then I realized this was a C/10 Fleetside, not the C/20 long Stepside.

Good luck on removing the roof support.

This is the Anniversary truck. The support is for the second floor I had an engineer look at it a few months ago and he drew up some specs for what size Ibeam would be needed I just haven’t gotten around to it .

New B&M transmission vacuum modulator (TH350). What a difference from my stock, 51 year old unit. I had been shifting from 1>2 at about 30mph, now it's just under 20mph, under normal driving. I bet I'll see a tick up in MPG! LOL

Now Gettin'r ready for Sunday's ALL C-10 Truck Show in Issaquah, WA

Got in my new "custom" SPID from Jeff Lampe at the Out in the Shop today. I f**k up the first one, which I knew I would do one way or the other, so I am glad I was smart enough to have ordered two.

Jeff Lampe does fabulous work - I don't think there is anywhere else you can get a SPID that looks this close to original

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Hopefully fixed the leak in the speedometer gear housing, cleaned up the PCV valve as a precautionary move, and looked for my oil leak up front. Looks like timing chain cover and if I go in that deep I guess a new gear/chain set would be in order along with water pump on this old engine. Might go ahead and get the correct set of pulleys for power steering install.
