Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
I'm saying it looks like the modern Dodge stole the grille from that kit. Kit bashers! I started building car models in '61, so 3 in 1 AMTs right when they changed from SMT. They gave a tube of putty for molding, customizing. I did a lot of customs of '40s- early '60s cars back then. Man that putty was rank! I'm sure it could give a buzz. Probably why they stopped including it. Things changed after my first few years of model building and one day I walked to the drug store for some cement and they told me I had to have an adult with me. I was nine and told them off. "I've been buying modeling cement since I was six all by myself! Why can't I buy it now that I'm older?". I didn't know about huffing glue and was insulted when they told me that was why. "Well that is stupid and I'm not! I build car models and that's what it's made for!" and stormed out. I went to the hardware store and they sold it to me because that's where I bought most of my models and they knew who I was.

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
I used to own this car after it retired, about 40 yrs ago. was a record holder in Seattle area and on the cover of some magazine.I painted white and some cragar mags. was a blast to drive for one of my first cars. It had 10 % engine set back and 5;86 gears in it. All I had was a souped up 283 with a 3 speed standard but with the gears it went fast off the line but redlined quick and had a top end of about 45 or 50 MPH if I remember right. I got more pics on a CD if anyone wants some. I got them from a friend of the original owner who was sick bad and he was hoping to buy the car back for him but the new owner wouldn,t sell and the car has been siiting in the middle of nowhere in a shed for the last 40 yrs.

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
Customizing bled over into hot rods a lot. How about the "Little Deuce Coupe" on the Beach Boys album?
49-51 Merc?

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
I love the '49-'53 Chevys. All the roofline choices. They went from the fat fender era rooflines to the first Belair hardtop.

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs
My friends 59 Caddy. The T bird behind it is my other buddy's. It's nice too. I can't find any pic's of it though.
I've seen this 60 Starliner in person and it's impressive. Pictures don't do it justice. Especially when I take them. It was built by Gambinos Kustoms in San Jose.

Here are a few more from that show. That silver '49 Club Coupe is my favorite '49-'51:

That first red one just above is from Randy's shop. He's a hoot and does some of the finest work in the industry.
