Re: Food shortage or hostage?

Anyone notice the average size of the people in the 73 video vs the modern footage?

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

We have come a long way in food production. Way more than enough to go around. No one should be hungry in these times. I have gone back to my recycling ways and now reuse almost everything as far as food. You'd be amazed the things you can put in a crock pot and turn into a great tasting stew. I mix all my leftovers up and make fabulous soups.

Sure did. It appears that we've gotten a little comfortable since then .

I think that things are settling down around here a little now. At least it seems so to me. I see reports of available toilet paper on Next-door at least once a day.

When this first started I wasn't that worried about the whole TP thing as we usually have enough on hand for a month or so. The first week that the "lockdown" really went into effect was pretty telling though. I counted 4 rooter trucks just on my block in that first week. My next door neighbor and the gal across the street had to call a couple on different days in the last week!

I talked to one of the plumbers and he said they could not keep up with the calls. All blockages and more water heaters than normal. Mostly blockages and mainly from people flushing stuff that they shouldn't like paper towels and the flushable wipes.

I know Im getting a ton of calls for side work as well. Im not doing any new construction but if someone has a tripped breaker, I'll head out. Most of my calls have been overloaded kitchen circuits .

As far as shortages go here. There really isn't any. Sometimes you'll go and one or two items from the list will be missing. The biggest problem with that is that it means standing in another line with another bunch of potentially sick people again to possibly find out that the same item is missing at another store which defeats the intent of going out of the house only when you really need to.

If we run out of TP at this point, I may just start dragging my butt on the back lawn!

At least you'll be out in the yard. Some dogs prefer to do it on the living room carpet!

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

sigh... As much as I've enjoyed pushing in on the TP holder's 'axle' springs since very young, I regret to say I had to load a new roll this morning. sigh...…. Down to five in the house. I am not a go till it's gone type of guy. I get low and I go into reserve mode. I'll find ways to stretch it out. hmmm... Ways to conserve toilet paper..... I sure better start getting serious about this finding TP thing!

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

We're down to about 20 rolls. That's another month, easily, for the four of us. I went to CostCo for pizza and noticed that they are now selling TP in smaller packages and limiting people to one. If it wasn't for the fact that I would have to stand in a long snaky line, I'd go early one day and pick some up. Old people get in early on some days (don't remember which), but everyone in this burg appears to be old. All the paper disappears early, I was told when the wife and I went there about three weeks ago. I'd rather pay a little more at a smaller store and not stand in a long line.

I never thought that I'd feel a twinge of fear looking at a empty TP holder.

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

I had just bought a 12pk when people started getting weird about TP. I have no idea how often we go through a roll, but I'd bet that would last us 6-8 weeks. My older son and his girlfriend appear, apparently, to weather this storm out. So occupancy doubled. I've asked them every time they've gone out to see about TP. They didn't always check but when they did there was nothing. It's back to just two of us again, as of Thursday.

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

I haven't seen any TP. So I just bought a big block of cheap cheese to plug me up.

To conserve TP, mix 2 rounded soup spoons of Metamucil in 16 oz cold water and drink it, once per day. I use the kind with sugar, as I stay away from artificial sweeteners. I started that in January after I had surgery (doctor recommended it), and noticed the side effect of very clean hiney, only takes a few squares of TP and often those were not really needed. So, I have kept up the habit even after I am recovered from my surgery. It is amazing how little TP I use nowadays because of this, a fraction of what I used before.
