Well a small argument erupted between him and the Veteran sitting behind me. End result is there definitely IS a line and the 65+ year old fella had crossed it. Heck - I just wanted some toilet paper. So the older fella that did the declaring marched up the line and took cuts in front of some older lady and so the thing erupted again. We are in this together and we can't act like that people! Try going to Burger King and declaring that there is No line... Anyway, if we take the civility out of the equation-- we are all SOL. So lets all be civil eh? I will look for Aunt Jemima the next time I am in the store and if I find her I will send her to you with some cornmeal and flour and sugar. OH, and a roll of TP- FREE!
Some people. I tell you what. I know an older woman who marched herself to the front of a line just like she owned it. When told to get back there where she belonged she said "well I'm old". She stayed there too only because everybody in line showed respect for elders. It would have been different if she had asked if anyone minded her going to the front of the line but she didn't. On another note, me and Aunt Jemima may be through. We just can't go on like this. But I had some Martha White tonight. Yep, big ol pan of corn bread with a home made stew. Oh man, that's good eating.

^ The only frozen vegetables at a local Stater Bros a couple of weeks ago was one lonely package of turnip greens and a few of "riced" cauliflower.

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

I noticed that I was getting dangerously low on Crown Royal, so I had to man up and brave the liquor store. I put on my respirator and rubber gloves. No one else was in the place, and I was thinking that during normal times, I probably would have been confused for a bandit, but it's completely normal now. At any rate, I didn't want to have to go thru that again for a while so I bought a half-gallon. That's a good month's worth since the bar's been closed. I don't mind talkin' to myself, but I sure hate drinkin' alone.

I happened to run out of TP just before the panic set in, and picked up my usual years-worth, so I'm good there. I could probably hold out on food for a couple more weeks if I had to, but I'll need to go to the store this week sometime. The old-guy hours are nice, but 7:00A to 8:00A Mon, Wed & Fri is useless for us that still have jobs.

Quite a test run to see how people act in a panic right?

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

This ain't no test run. This is the real deal.

If someone ignored the line and walked right up to the door saying, "There is no line", I would say, "Correct. We are going through this door in the same order we arrived in. Now get back behind the person you got here after"

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

Aunt Jemima pancake mix is available. Don't know about corn meal. I pretty much suck at making cornbread. Flour and sugar keep swapping places for being out of stock. Last trip to Walmart, the flour was missing but the sugar bin was completely full. Bread was very brand specific on availability. Either the shelves were fully stocked or empty. Think I saw one pack of TP the last trip but didn't need any having made sure all my normal TP storage places were filled just before this thing really blew up.

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

A lot of the shortage is from profiteering. Some people are in line with carts overflowing with the same products (carbonated beverages for example). I followed a van that was being loaded with just such a product and they went directly to a small mart (about 8 miles away), pulled around back and started unloading. Worse, it was done with an EBT card and the "van" was a Cadillac Escalade. 100% profit on tax payers dime.

Awwww, poor little guy. My wife is upset, it took us a long time to get a little one, and we're happy it's on the way, but she can't have a baby shower, I can't go to appointments with her anymore, if this keeps up, I might not be allowed in the delivery room. We're on the one and done plan.

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

We had the "panic" buying hoarding here mid March. Guess what, they are still making everything 2 days ago at Shoprite in town plenty of food eggs bought a box of Whole wheat pancake mix some fish . Everything was well stocked . Even TP and sanitizing wipes . Bleach and everything else was shelved. Hope the hoarders choke on their TP preferably after it's used. I laughed at the all theidiots with carts of tp. I shop at BJ'S so you have to buy a years worth everytime.

I did buy paper towels for my daughter's father in law he and his wife are in quarantine not because they have it but he just got done with chemo and lost a lung. I dropped it at their house on the front porch with some lysol .

I was working retail at nights when Johnny pulled that stunt. Came in to stock the shelves the following evening and there was nothing to stock, shelves were bare along with the back room. this was when stores actually carried inventory in the back room

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

Well I don't hope that anyone chokes on anything. I get it. I would not want to run out of TP. As long as people are not trying to sell it for a huge profit, I don't see the issue with the tissue. We will eventually use it all up. I have a bunch but I always do. I have to say that I used to pull on that roll like it was the Wheel Of Fortune. Now anything more than 4 sheets is Taking a shower. We are all in this together and I hope we ALL make it. I am on the "Next Door" app which is a neighborhood specific app. A guy on there said his Fed Ex package is missing and he was looking for it. Come to find out he is kinda touchy in his other posts and very vocal. The package in question. apparently, contained AR 15 ammunition. I am counting on everyone to stay sane. Hang in there. I am not ready for a Mad Max world.

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

The thing is people are hoarding, not buying what they need. This is ridiculous. There is fresh meat fully stocks, milk, fresh produce, all sorts of perishable items fully stocked, yet not a stich of TP in the entire aisle. The TP plants are up and running and so is the shipping. This has gone on for a few weeks now. No, it's not people buying TP because they need it. They are buying way more than that. The fact is, they are wiping their asses on the rest of their community! I don't hope they choke on it either. That's only because I know they won't be eating it. Choking on whatever it is scumbags eat suits me just fine.

Re: Food shortage or hostage?

my wife chatted up some of the grocery clerks on her last trip for food, she buys one of what we need, one chicken, one bag of rice, one dozen eggs (if they have them, eggs are scarce in our area) etc.

the point being the clerks and the managers were talking about how they expect a ton of returns at the end of the month or at the end of all this, it is sad really, as so many people decided to hoard stuff and then they will either toss it (American style, sorry we waste a ton of food here) or they say they will "donate it" yeah right, or return it. shame on all of them
