C20 C30 question

Not trying to start a verbal war here but I have a question. I found what is listed as a C20 but it has dual rear wheels and matching front axle. Looks like a C30. I ask the guy to check and the VIN and the VIN tag matches the frame and SPID. It is not a restored truck and looks from pics he sent to be all original. The SPID has a funny RPO of 4359AA local gas company and 4359AG local gas company on the other side. Could they have ordered a C20 with a dual rear wheel? Never seen or heard of it but because of the special RPO was wondering. The Gas company name is printed on the SPID and they are a very large company in this area.

Sounds like somebody may have worked it over to suit them. That happens like a gazillion times a day. Jim

Re: C20 C30 question

Any Pic's? Is it a pickup bed style or cab n chassis? There was a dual rear wheel option available on the 3/4 tons but it was delivered as a cab n chassis truck.

Re: C20 C30 question

If the Vin, Frame, and SPID#"s all match there should be a "RO5-DR Wheel" option on the SPID.

Re: C20 C30 question

Could have been an old rework of a C20. Back in the day, a previous owner may have made it into a C30, using ALL OEM parts...maybe

Chevrolet pickups have such an unlimited range of interchange ability, it's likely an easy thing to do...

You say "matching front axle" if its a 4x4. They didn't make a 4WD c30 back then.
I bought my C30 2WD with a mid 70's dually 14 Bolt / disc front brakes spindles set-up. Some PO had R/R 'd the OE Eaton HO72 and front drum brakes. It works...

Re: C20 C30 question

Sorry didn't mean to imply that it was a 4X4. It has 2wd front end with disk brakes.
But it has the hubs, and wheels that match the dually wheels in the back like a C30

Re: C20 C30 question

Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the C10 and C20 frames the same and the C30 was a little thicker material and the channel wider? I have all 70-71 4X4's so not as up to date on the 2wd trucks.
But a 71 dump truck would be way to cool to take around to the local car shows.

Yeah on the C30's. I like tooling around in my C30. Just got turn wider, the dually tires like to jump curbs.

Re: C20 C30 question

67 72 C30 frames are also shaped like a 4x4 frame back of the cab more straight then a c10 c20 where they bulge out at the rear axle

learn something new about these trucks never knew you could get a c20 dully in a chassis model
