Re: My '59 Apache

Denee007,
In Kim57s thread you posted a lift. Is that the lift you bolt it in place when needed and unbolt it and put it next to the wall till next time. If so, how do you like it? Nice mustang by the way!

Maxjax

I'm so happy that someone asks about my maxjax! ; ). I love this lift! It's incredibly versatile, portable, you can unbolt it and roll it out of the way. You can also go to my blog www.classiccarsandtools.com and click on my MaxJax, and show you a little more about it. I don't make anything, I just get excited about things that make my life a little easier. If you go to my blog, would you please leave a comment? I have worked really hard on that thing and no one ever makes a comment! : (. Or you can even call me, and I can tell you everything you'd ever want to know about the MJ. 832-607-9116 going to bed early tonight though.

Denee007- Excellent work on your projects! Very interesting build thread. Checked out your blog, too. (I have a weakness for old Mustangs, myself). Keep it up!

'59 Apache on my MaxJax

I found this photo while going through my gazzilion photos on file. I think it's the only photo with my Apache on the lift! I put this pic on my blog. I had to use wood blocks to get to the frame. Notice the lift is at the first notch on the MJ. I need a hole in my ceiling for truck applications! ha ha! ; )

column to gear linkage

Hi! seems like finding time to work on my truck is difficult! There's always something popping up to fix! Mom's home, my brother's stuff, lol. I love it! I love fixing stuff!

Here, I'm just about ready to either bolt this heim bracket or weld it. I had an extra U-joint and decided to use it.

I felt the opening in the lower fender well looked like the heim and steering shaft should be there.

I mounted my drop down battery box! Pretty neat!

Going to workout, I'll be back! ; )

Re: My '59 Apache

Looks good, but do some research on U-joint phasing, it looks like the shaft u-joint to universal is out 90 degrees. Can't see the steering end. On steering it is not as critical as drivelines because of slow rotation speed, but it can cause binding, not a good thing in a corner!

I think thats key'd d shaft, they usually only have one way you can run the joint on shaft, but with the spherical bearing there to hold it in place should not have binding trouble, but he should turn the wheel a couple times just to double check.

AC stuff

It's not like I haven't been doing anything~ ; ) This requires a lot of thinking~ something I'm not used to! ha ha!
I've got all the hoses cut as I wanted them, and just sent them off to be crimped by Dwight@ Classic auto air (a really neat guy). Maybe a year or so from now, I'll be enjoying cool air from my apache!

Getting the correct size belts

I re-installed the Alan Groves ac/ alt brackets back on my real engine. Took me three trips to Oreillys to get the correct belts. Now I can take it all back apart and paint parts. ; )

Re: My '59 Apache

Thanks! The complete AC unit is from Classic auto air. On my mustang I bought vintage air. The Apache's truck has been more difficult to install mainly because of the hoses and how they are being routed ( to be hidden). I recently sent the hoses back to classic air to be crimped.
Today I plan to remove my mock engine a start working on finishing boxing the front frame, then start removing the old paint from the engine compartment. But I'll be taking it easy as my low back has been messing with me. Gary's home today and willing to help me when the need arises; ). If at worse, I'll set up the lawn chairs and enjoy the day!

first go around with engine compartment

I thought sure I was going to make leaps and bounds of progress, but that's OK, it was progress! I was careful with the aircraft paint remover keeping it away from paint. I'll work on it more Tuesday when I have some more time. I need to pull the steering column out. I did finish the brackets for the heim by welding in nuts in the frame re-enforced with 1/4" plate. I didn't get around to boxing the frame~ I'm happy! Now to figure out what color to paint the engine compartment! ; )

You're a lot braver than I would have been using stripper on a painted vehicle.
Looks like it did a nice job taking the paint off.

No no no, I'll be having heat too! I was just showing how these two particular hoses have to be ran. In this pic the hoses aren't crimped yet, since then, the hoses are all crimped and underneath my bed, with my radiator and condenser where I know it is all safe. Lol
