shifter sticks when pulling and pushing (auto)

71 c10 shifter sticks, i havr been searching for the answer here and have not really found what I'm looking for. it will rotate but will not push and pull. it can be forced but very hard. will not lock in park position without forcing. I have already oiling the spring in the engine bay with no luck. wondering If anyone has had this problem before I tear apart column or replace it with a new tilt column? thanks for any info or advice.

Re: shifter sticks when pulling and pushing (auto)

Spray some penetrating oil into the shifter pivot on the column. Let it soak a bit and then try it.
