Hickey Enterprises Aux Fuel Tanks.

After we get this bit trip done i plan to escape the rig and get home and i will finally get some pics of the tanks i aquired years back before the move and all.
I am going to see if they will fit in my 79 K5....if not i will be looking to make sure they go to a good home. One is oem HE complete with the shipping decal still on the tank...the other is a aluminum copy.

What's it like riding in the back seat with gas sloshing around in those things??

Re: Hickey Enterprises Aux Fuel Tanks.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a double wall top with OEM auxilary gas tank receptacles on both sides (see pic).

Name: Aux gas cap.jpg
Views: 1874
Size: 55.0 KB

The receptacles are secured with a threaded metal cap. I've never used them. My Blazer, which was purchased a year ago, did not come with aux tanks.

I have previously tried to trade the top for a soft convertible top, such as a BesTop, without success. I might also consider selling the top outright for the right $$$. What do you reckon it's worth?

If I decide to convert my truck to 2wd, they'll be for sale. Just not sure if I want to convert or have a 4wd and a 2wd. (the wife is leaning toward the second option! )

You can hear it in the front seats! I haven't filled them since the day I drove it home. I used most of the gas in them and then stopped using the tanks, mostly because it was too expensive to fill up and the gas gauge doesn't work with the aux tanks.

The holes in the side of the top drop the value considerably. Double wall tops can be hard to sell anyway. Most of the value is in your rear hatch. If the hatch is solid, I'd say $50-100.

Agreed. Possibly dealer installed, but not OEM. The Hickey tanks (and other accessories) were dealer installs or aftermarket.

OK, I'll go with non-OEM. but definitely a pro job, dealer or otherwise. These things are solidly installed, not a mark inside or out, screw caps thread smoothly in-and-out, etc. Whoever did it knew what they were doing.

Oh well, maybe I'll stumble across someone who likes the idea. Hatch is in great shape, locks with key, glass very good.

I'd buy just the hatch....if you are interested in selling....

Re: Hickey Enterprises Aux Fuel Tanks.

Someone jumped on it quickly. It said pending pickup when I saw the post and it wasn't too long after the time stamp said it was posted.

Re: Hickey Enterprises Aux Fuel Tanks.

I had a set of those in my first Blazer before I knew anything about Blazers. It had a roof rack, two AUX tanks, Skid plates (OEM) Swing away spare tire carrier, etc, etc and I stripped it all off and gave/threw it away!

Re: Hickey Enterprises Aux Fuel Tanks.

I would guess one could remove the tanks and flush them with water and have a metal shop gently remove a side and install baffles to cure the issue...

I'd love to find the installation documents for these tanks. If they fit my 79 i think i will have baffles installed and poss. mod the lines so i can electronically control the fuel in each tank so it will refill the main tank.
