Harmonic Balance Question

Hey there,

Why did trucks get bigger harmonic balancers than cars? I'm rebuilding a 350 that was originally from a car to go into my Blazer. I figured I'd get a larger harmonic balancer for it, but I was curious if I would run into any problems. I can't imagine what they'd be.

Thanks,

Brian

The larger one does a better job of suppressing torsional vibration. High-performance versions of car engines (Z-28, etc.) used the larger dampers.

actually the big ones keep the rpms up once they are up in a heavy vehicle. in a quick revving lighter vehicle you want the small one but in heavy truck you want the big one
