Rockauto HEI

Hello All,

Im going to make the jump to an HEI. Seems like most are recommending GM vs an ebay or amazon one that doesnt cost an arm and a leg. Has anyone had better luck with one vs another on the options for rockauto.. if there's other options people recommend please let me know.

Thank You all

link for the HEI options..

Re: Rockauto HEI

I installed a summit distributor and it lasted about 2 years. I'm not sure what failed but i didn't have any spark and the coil was good. Cap, rotor, and coil were all good. It may have been the pickup coil or ignition module. Instead of throwing parts at it I replaced it. I cant speak on any other brands but I now have an MSD in mine. No complaints, but it is only about 4 months old.

Re: Rockauto HEI

Thank you for the honest feedback. I just put in a pertronix ignitor... but I guess I should have just done the HEI swap off the bat, as i already did the leg work of running the wire. What spark plug wires did you go with that would fit the 250

I have tried contacting Tom (12bolt) called, emailed, texted, voicemail... haven’t knocked on his door yet lol but haven’t gotten any response back. Was trying to buy the blueprint HEI he offers

Re: Rockauto HEI

I have had good luck with MSD Streetfire
I have a buddy that has been rockin' a Duralast HEI for 5 years, trouble free.
Neither one was exactly plug-n-play though, both required tuning.

advance limiting, spring swaps and vac-adv adjustments.

Unfortunately, you probably aren't going t o pull a dizzy out of a box that is perfectly set up for your particular application.

Re: Rockauto HEI

I used the pertronix in car, be damned if I can remember which one, and it worked great. Eliminated the points and condensor if I remember correctly, and was pretty much an HEI without actually having to put in a whole new setup. I liked it for what I needed.

Re: Rockauto HEI

Attachment 2057651Thank You all for the feedback. I’m keeping the motor stock and not looking to do any tuning. I decided on the Cardone NEW HEI. They have a lifetime warranty and from what I can find i think it’s built in the USA. I also purchased an autoline 292 carb...not sure what difference it will have if any on the 250. But figured i would give it a try. I’m planning on replacing all my gaskets starting with the valve cover which I removed this past weekend and is currently curing with the gasket. Next up will be the intake manifold and exhaust manifold gaskets.

Picture of valve cover cleaned up after removal
