Quick easy mod (reverse lights)- pics

Recently Longhorn Man and matthufham explained a quick fix for my reverse lights not working since I've owned my truck. I took their advice and unplugged the harness from the switch, added a lighted rocker switch (I used a blue switch) to my shifter plate (Matt's idea and his pic ) and ran 2 new wires to the harness. Works like a charm!. Tonight I decided to take my new favorite tape (Nashua brand foil tape) and line the reverse light housings with the foil tape to create a reflective surface. I trimmed off the excess with a razor blade. This made the light brighter and more uniform . The other benefit is it makes the new lenses look better during the day also. The last pic is in my pitch dark garage. This tape is awesome stuff!. Very sticky, conforms to any shape and is rated for moisture and extreme temperatures. I bought it at Home Depot for about $4/roll.

I bet this would be good for the tail lights also.

Re: Quick easy mod (reverse lights)- pics

sdkid- I'm running custom made LED tail lights that are very bright but I bet you are right. I'm planning a little test with my grille lights and side markers and I'll let everybody know how it turns out.
AesC10s- the pic makes them look brighter than they really are but it still made a nice difference. Took 5 minutes to do each socket.

Looks great! This months street rod builder page 94 showed this for old modle A type lights. Looks like it would work real well.

Cool. All the new aftermarket headlights have that chrome reflective background behind the H4 bulbs so I figured it must help and this tape has a chrome like finish.

I had a switch like that for reverse lights on an old truck I had.Another cool feature is,you can flick the switch even when in drive. So tailgaters and dummies behind you with their brights on can be sent a real clear message.

Re: Quick easy mod (reverse lights)- pics

I just happen to have some of this tape laying around, as I am building a house at the moment.

I know what I will do this evening!

Thanks for sharing!

Re: Quick easy mod (reverse lights)- pics

I have an old 55W spotlamp bolted on to the back of my Isuzu Trooper 4x4 as an extra reversing/worklight for off road use. Sure does stop tailgaters though! My truck has no reversing lights as they've been turned into amber UK spec turn signals as flashing red taillights is illegal over here.

Re: Quick easy mod (reverse lights)- pics

My column had been changed to a floor shifter type column and my switch in the floor shifter was removed by a former owner.
