That's exactly how mine is on my K20 fleet. Not common is right, I'm not sure I've seen another. I like that.

Several years ago when I was stopped in traffic, a woman behind me wasn't paying attention and hit me. The bumper is still fine, but it kinda ruined the front of her Corolla...

If anyone has one of those in the Phoenix area that they're thinking of scrapping, let me know..... I'd love to do a step bumper on my K20.

Re: Sweet GMC. but look at the bumper!

anyone still reading this thread?
I've got one of these bumpers on my just purchased '73 GMC 3/4 ton.
I just removed the little aluminum tag that was riveted on so I could paint the Monster. The tag says Barden Bumpers - Woodland, CA.
it's been painted over too,

Re: Sweet GMC. but look at the bumper!

Hmmm, I going to have to look into this. My truck has the same bumper and I always thought it came with it. I don't remember as a kid my dad having to buy a bumper for the truck.

I was going to change it out, but the more I see it I think I'm keeping it. Really seems to fit the truck look.

Re: Sweet GMC. but look at the bumper!

As mentioned in the thread, rear bumpers were optional back in the day, so dealers picked up some change by putting step bumpers on. Putting their name on the bumpers gave them free advertising for the life of the truck.

alot of Barden bumpers around california, they were put on by the dealers in the 70's, I have one on my '72 and my '74, my son's each have one on their trucks, I love the way they look and are very functional

Re: Sweet GMC. but look at the bumper!

Funny. I have one on a 1966 chevy project truck. I was thinking of getting rid of it but now I am thinking to put the time into making it nice. They are made by Barden bumpers. Mine still has the plate

Re: Sweet GMC. but look at the bumper!

I have always liked this type of bumper also. I just bought a 1969 SWB stepside pickup in CA that is currently being shipped, it has a painted rear bumper. My first new pickup was in 1969 and yes the rear bumper was an option as I remember waiting for them to install it when I took delivery of the truck. It was $2160.00 down the road. I did see a bumper at a swap meet last month that had the dealers name and the town some where in Arkansas stamped into it in red letters. Could have had it for $20.00, wish I had bought it now.
