Question advantages of factory wooden bed floor versus steel floor

I have a few questions to ask about the advantage of wooden bed floor versus steel floor. My 1972 GMC super custom has the wooden bed floor. I am just wondering what the advantages were back in 1972 to get the the wooden floor overview steel floor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Farmers like wooden floor because it wasn’t as slippery as steel. ie: shoveling grain and hauling live stock. Farmers back then used stock racks to transport animals a lot.

When hauling something that might move around while moving, blocking could easily be nailed directly to a wood bed without any permanent damage.

A ritual that I have always found soothing comforting tranquility in is slathering on the linseed oil about every fall. 1 qt does an 8 foot bed very well.
