1967-72 headlight relay upgrade w/delay off now available!

Okay-after several members requested one and after building one for an member, I have these harnesses available now for $149 plus shipping. This is a kit designed for you to use your existing firewall lighting connector a simply swap out the 56-series terminals with these which are color coded. This kit is for 69-72 with lighted side markers but will work on 67-68 as well-for simplicity, I'm adding the lighted side marker option in case some want to add the later style and if not, simply disregard the brown leads and grounds for them.

Includes a 30A sealed fused 12ga run to a triple relay bank with (2) 40A relays controlling low and high beams and a solid state relay/module providing a 20 second delay off for the low beams. PM for more details or with questions. Wiring is routed in high heat resistant loom and comes with extra rosebud clips for custom routing. All wiring is j1128 spec and all terminations are crimped and soldered-this lighting harness exceeds OEM/aftermarket quality.

Re: 1967-72 headlight relay upgrade w/delay off now available!

So this setup allows your lights to remain on for 20 second delay after turning the key off? I thought light switch was constantly powered or did you reroute power for this setup? Can you provide a schematic (with purchase of course) in case anything ever goes wrong? Thanks, it sounds like a great setup and I am interested just need some details please.

Re: 1967-72 headlight relay upgrade w/delay off now available!

The relay upgrade integrates with the solid state module so that it is triggered whenever the low beams are triggered a this in turn is wired parallel with the switch lead for the low beam relay. The timer (which has 3 other settings for longer intervals) inside the module keeps power "live" to the #86 switch terminal of the low beam relay so once power is shut off (ie turning off the headlights) the module starts the countdown for the alotted time-once the timer expires, contacts in the module open and "kills" the signal to the low beam relay thus turning off the headlights.

Will this automatically turn off your headlights if you forget to switch them off?

No it will not but another member has expressed interest in a kit whereby I'll be adding a buzzer to the headlight circuit so that if the lights are left on with the IGN off, the buzzer goes off. This works in tandem with the delay off feature.

Do you make any that do not have the timer? Or can the timer be turned off?

And can you make a harness for GMC's?

Re: 1967-72 headlight relay upgrade w/delay off now available!

Oh yeah-I build them in virtually any configuration....ranging from a stock replacement headlight harness to delay off, timer reminder, etc. Basically however you want it set up I can build accordingly. If you'd simply like a headlight harness with relay upgrades I can do that as well. If you have specific wants/needs, PM me with details and I'd be more than willing to build a custom harness for you!

I build my harnesses using more later model methods of wiring in terms of terminations, sealed connectors, commercial grade (ie NOT Chinese) Tyco relays, ect. so everything I build exceeds OEM standards.

Re: 1967-72 headlight relay upgrade w/delay off now available!

What is the cost for the basic headlight upgrade relay kit? Does this use two ralays, one for the low beams and the other for the highs? Do you also have a wiring harness kit for changing from the stock externaly regulated alternator to a 10SI internal regulated alternator? Thanks much for your time,
Bob

Todd, your 67-72 front lighting harness with adjustable 0-900 second headlight delay off is ready to ship! I'll send itboff tonight for ya via USPS Priority Mail. All my kits have the provision for side markers too-its just easier that way. And besides the delay off feature, this harness kit is better than stock replacement-larger supply leads for the headlights and even larger ground leads to maintain a high operating voltage. The flame retardant/heat resistant Delphi loom is large enough to also add your existing horn circuit and charging system leads as well. Let me known own it works for ya! Thanks again!

As requested, this relay upgrade kit also incorporates a headlight-on reminder buzzer harness circuit so if you have the ignition off and lights are on, the buzzer will sound. This mounts under the dash since you'll need access to a switched ignition source, a ground and included is an adapter pigtail to allow you to keep a factory appearance while integrating the signal wire for the buzzer from the tan lead in your headlight switch. This is a really trick setup-I think you'll like it!

All wiring of course is j1128 so its rated for underhood use and In use a flame/heat resistant Delphi loom for an updated appearance and it will maintain a higher level of performance over stock or OEM style aftermarket headlight wiring kits. The side marker and turn signal leads you'll need to splice to your existing-there are so many option for lighting pigtails I leave that up to you. Headlight grounds are 10ga so poorly grounded lighting is a problem no more and they secure @ the factory locations on the core support.

Let me know if you have any questions! I'll PM customs shipping info once it leaves.

I have just one question. Is there simple follow along written instructions with the harness?

Thank you. I am looking forward to the install. Another thing I just thought of which I think would make a classy and safety oriented touch to a wiring harness is to make the side markers flash intermittently with the front and rear signal lights.

You could very easily tie in the side markers in with the signal leads to the turn signals.
