I have a '58 1/2 ton stepside with a Volare front end set up and have recently switched over to a big block, side engine mounts and a Muncie. I am wondering if anyone on the forum has any ideas about which headers to run with this combination. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I am doing a 52 with a big block and we got a set of block huggers from Jegs or Summit. So far they are fitting ok but I still have to do the rest of the exhaust. Take a look at my build thread and I should have some pictures there. We did the Heidts MII setup though. Other than that I wouldn't know what to tell you. You might look at a set of Camaro headers the tuck up pretty nice.

I can't believe nobody else here is running a tri five (or a 58-59) with a Volare front end and a BBC/headers! This is how it was done before all of the "bolt-in" front ends became available.

Did all of the custom trucks built in the 80's and 90's suddenly disappear??

I am currently running a Volarie front but I don't have a BBC, I am running a SBC. I am also just using a set of center dump block hugger headers and everything clears fine. I know that doesn't help but at least I have a volarie front end.

Take a look at Sanderson, they have a 3/4 length, rear exit that I used in the past to clear the steering box. You will need to offset the motor - trans to the passenger side about 1", the trans must be offset the same amount to keep the crank centerline paralell to the chassis centerline. It is best to have the headers before you build the motor mounts.

Thanks Rob. I called Sanderson and they said they would work with me to get the right combination. We are in California on vacation right now and when we return I will contact them.

You would have a better chance asking this question in a classic ford truck forum. The volare clip was used and still is use on a lot of classic ford trucks. I have done them on chevy's but most people have always used the GM clip on chevys. The chevy's I've done them on I used a SBC with engine is offset to the passenger side because of that bulky steering box. Sorry to recommend another forum but its true about the volare and the classic f100 and after all we are here to help people. I will pm you a link to the site that will most likely be able to answer your question.
