Anybody else into vintage coolers or pop machines?

Wife and i picked this up the other day. Rewired it, and buffed it out a little.
Works great. Love these old things. A big reminder of days of old. Of course this one is full of coke and barley pop..
From what i read, this was manufactured in ohio late 40's to mid 50's. Anyone else have anything similar? Post em up!

Re: Anybody else into vintage coolers or pop machines?

i dont know if it counts but we picked up one of those old washmachines with the ringer attached to it at a flea market. we use that as our cooler when we have parties, took the pump apart and got it working so when all the ice is melted you just flip a switch and shoot the water out.

Re: Anybody else into vintage coolers or pop machines?

Very nice Shawn! I picked up this vintage cooler to use as the battery box in the trunk of my 40 Ford. We'll see if it makes it there. I've actually been using the cooler as a cooler so who knows.

Are you going to make it up to Good Guys this year?

Re: Anybody else into vintage coolers or pop machines?

Man, that Pepsi machine reminds me of the one in the country store where we used to go to get Cokes. If you were standing barefoot on the concrete floor it would shock the crap out of you!

We'd always stand around it until someone with shoes showed up!

Nice machine, Rg

Re: Anybody else into vintage coolers or pop machines?

I'm into about anything vintage. I don't have any advertising coolers, but I use old metal Colemans. I have the classic green, a nice metallic blue, and a bigger red one.

Those roll/slide top coolers are the best idea ever and stores stopped using them. Best for us because they keep drinks colder. Better for the store because they use far less energy, since the cold stays in when you open it. Bars still use them because you better be serving a cold beer if you want to sell more than one.

Re: Anybody else into vintage coolers or pop machines?

Tim, sounds like I'd be right at home with the type of things you have laying around or still use for that matter. I like the sound of that blue Coleman never seen one .
Yeah , I agree, this style slide top will get em real cold! I've got it dialed in at a steady 38 degree. Will see how much juice it's pulling in a month or two.

Fine69, that's sweet... 60's ??
Man I remember going to town as a kid with my dad, we would swing in to the gas station, an old Skelly's. anybody else have those? Anyway they had a coke machine real similar to that. Rare we would splurge and get one though. Miss all that

I have an old Coke-Cola cooler, I use as a storage container for livestock feed. It is not in the best condition. I found it like that.

Re: Anybody else into vintage coolers or pop machines?

I really like that Pepsi cooler. Once the whole collectible thing blew up and a little dust settled I came to realize I'd prefer Pepsi over Coke. Coke stuff is most popular (reason #1), but mostly I think Pepsi did more interesting advertising. I love that Keystone Cop mascot they used and there is more color than just a whole lot of red. Look at that 2-tone blue with that arrowhead logo. Pepsi has always been the underdog, yet they have hung right up there with Coke all these years and doing well. I like the small defunct names all the more.

We never had Skelly around here in my time. We could go on a long time about oil company advertising. I got caught up in that till it didn't fit my wallet any more.

Re: Anybody else into vintage coolers or pop machines?

I do not collect, my battery is in the bed of my 69. I would like to find a repop or original to use as my battery box. I would like an old Pepsi cooler, my truck is blue. Just a thought I have been tumbling around.

Wow! Look at the size of that thing. Pretty neat. You find a place to locate parts, let me know. I need a couple pieces. How heavy. Mine is in the 285 range..
Farmertruck, you notice we're neighbors?
Welcome, you and tombstone.

Tim, that keystone Pete? is going way back! Yeah Pepsi by far was more creative although I'll always remember the "catchy at the time" buy the world a coke song..

Yeah weighs a ton, I pulled the compressor out even though it worked... Everytime I plugged it in the lights dimmed! Gonna replace it with a newer unit sometime... It's on my "list"

Re: Anybody else into vintage coolers or pop machines?

The "buy the world a coke" song is still kind of catchy And it is kind of universal. I have found that when travelling in a country where you are not real proficient in the language, and you want something to drink, I have always been successful asking for "a Coke". Or "a Sprite" for that matter

Re: Anybody else into vintage coolers or pop machines?

It's not a cooler, but don't get many chances to share one of my favorite things. This was at a shop I took over managing and finally got the chance to bring.it home. It's a '50s (kelvinator I think) flip top ice cream freezer. I think it's really cool and use it for all the good summer treats. Would love to find a cooler or fridge to compliment it
