71 disc brake setup

I have a buddy wanting to sell his complete 1/2 ton 71 disc brake setup it's all factory parts so very used condition. it is everything he actually is just going to cut the frame at the cab and throw in the master/booster. I'm trying to decide between buying that or going with cpp so everything is new. what's a fair price for complete factory setup? thanks

Re: 71 disc brake setup

My opinion they are worth little to nothing except for cores for new parts.
(especially if you are thinking about adding drop spindles)
Otherwise the spindles and dust shields would be the only parts I would re-use.
Everything else should be new.
The a-arms can be re-built,... but check prices of quality front end parts before you commit to that.

I scrapped two complete front ends because I couldn't get $50 for the pair.

Re: 71 disc brake setup

that's kind of why I'm thinking that 500 kit from cpp I've already completely rebuilt my drum brake front end and from what I read on your thread I can't reuse any of it

You can use the a-arms and all the steering if you purchase "year correct" spindles.
You can now buy standard and drop spindles for the following years to complete a disc brake conversion:
60-62
63-70
71-72
73-87

They are a bolt on with the addition of disc brake rotors, calipers and hoses.

Re: 71 disc brake setup

if I understand correctly I can't take the 71 spindles and put them on my 69 without replacing ball joints, tie rods, etc?

Correct.
That's why I would buy 63-70 conversion spindles.
Most places have them for around $230.
